Hey all:
I've finally made it, I'm in the 3-axis club!!

Took forever to get the eyes working but I got it done just in time for the big day.

OH Man! That rocks!! How long did that take you?!?! What do you use to control the servos?

There's a bunch of us on the forum here that have been working on these things all summer. The eyes took forever!

If you are interested, look in the "My 3-axis skull...in progress" thread, it explains the whole process in detail, but it's a loooooooooong read!!

Thanks
Don

GREAT JOB !!!! Now for the question, how did you do the 2 axis movement on the eyes? Again it looks GREAT.

Great eyes.

Hopefully you will reveal how you did the eyes.

I presume you used two more servos. Likely small ones.

I had a thought. What if you had a metal rod attached to self centering eyes. Instead of servos. Place a ring of small electromagnets around the rod. By providing current to the magnets in varying voltages the eyes would be infinitely controllable. Plus they could respond much faster. You could even have each eye with it's own rod and magnet aray. Then you could do lazy eyes. Cross eyes. Splay eyes. Of course you would be using quite a few channels.

I am just getting into this electronics aspect of props. Can these programmers provide variable dc voltage in the 12 volt range? And can that voltage go into a negative as well on the channel. The reason I ask this is because you might get away with only three electromagnets if the rod was magnetic as well. The electromagnets would provide either a positive field or negative field which would attract or repel the rod.

Ya, I will be posting some pics, etc. on the eye linkage; Too busy with the big day right now. It's difficult to get really good photos of this project as most of the linkage is buried inside the skull, but I'll try my best.
