ARE YOU FEELING A CHILLY SENSATION FROM THE TOP OF YOUR CRANIUM TO THE TIP OF YOUR FIBULA? DO YOU SUFFER FROM COLD-HEART SYNDROME SOON AFTER NEW YEAR'S ARRIVAL? HAS WINTER GOT ITS FRIGID FINGERS AROUND YOUR THROAT... uh hem, Uh I mean YOUR THOUGHTS CAUSING YOU TO WONDER IF YOU WILL EVER FEEL THE WARM SENSATION OF THE HOT SUN BURNING THE FLESH FROM YOUR FACE?

Well then -- it MUST BE TIME ONCE AGAIN FOR SOME BLOODY VAMPIRE VALENTINES - 2023! Or if celebrating LUPERCALIA is more your style. (Meaning - Lupercalis "pertaining to Lupercus," whose name derives from lupus "wolf" and per Wikipedia - Lupercalia was an ancient, possibly pre-Roman pastoral annual festival, observed in the city of Rome from the 13th to the 15th of February to avert evil spirits and purify the city, releasing health and fertility.

Take a bite out of your winter doldrums, after holiday blues - share some love - just in time for Valentine's Day!

It's fun - It's easy - a great way to warm up your iced over winter heart and shine a little light into the darkness!

Here is how it works:
Post in this thread if you wish to exchange greetings with other Halloween Forum members, and indicate if you have a mailing limit for the number of greetings you wish to send out and where you're willing to mail to... USA, USA & Canada, Everywhere and Anywhere. (It can be a letter, greeting card, postcard or note - handmade or store bought. We love them all!) - Then exchange addresses via private message with others who wish to exchange valentines, have fun!

Aiming for a mailing deadline of February 8th to get the Valentines to their intended in time for Valentine's Day. Here's wishing the next few weeks of winter will be a little bit warmer thanks to sharing the love with Vampy or Wolfie Valentines!

A Reminder - Many of us love to add a little SWAG in our cards please make sure not only the weight BUT the size of your mailing is within the USPS single stamp limit. The USPS is getting more strict with its limits...

Also - Life happens if something should keep you from sending out your greetings please let those you have said you'll be exchanging with know. Nothing feeds the darkness more than pondering the what ifs...

NOW - let the love bites begin! Buwaa ha haaaa!

When I started the thread I had a MAILING date of Feb 8th in the hopes greeting get to their intended by the 14th. I believe I'll mail a bit earlier then that because the USPS has been more slip-shot in getting deliveries to places in a timely manner.

Just a reminder PLEASE make sure you add enough postage to your greetings. I just had a notice from my PO asking for $5 more to get a card I believe was sent to us from the Halloween exchange.

I have my cards figured out and ready to print now to figure out a little swag to add that doesn't make it OVERSIZED by USPS standards...

I've been told that once a "letter" is considered to be oversized, as when it more then a 1/4 inch thick it becomes a package and the price really goes up, just looked and from the USPS web site most recent bulletin from 2007 no less - First-Class Mail Fact Sheet.
Is says - and I quote -
  • The maximum size for letters did not change: 11-1/2" x 6-1/8" x 1/4" thick.
  • The maximum weight for letter-size pieces is 3.5 ounces.
  • The single-piece 1-ounce letter rate is $0.41, the additional ounce price is $0.17 (2007 rates remember, currently it's 60 cents soon to be 63 cents)
  • When a piece of First-Class Mail exceeds any one of the maximum measurements of a letter, it is classified and priced as a large envelope (flat).
  • The single-piece 1-ounce rate for large envelopes (flats) is $0.80. (2007 again currently $1.20 likely to go up too)
  • The maximum size for large envelopes is 15" x 12" x 3/4" thick.
  • The maximum weight for large envelopes is 13 ounces
  • When a First-Class Mail item exceeds any one of the maximum measurements of a large envelope, it is classified and priced as a package (parcel).
So it seems to me the USPS has it's way of getting it's pound of flesh out of us and then complains when no one uses the mail anymore. Also be aware YOUR PO might say it's good to go at the cheaper rate BUT at ANY point along the way another PO can say NOPE it's too big and needs more postage... I've been told this by our PO. Hence the reason some folks get their cards and others get a notice needs more postage to deliver.

I don't know what's up with the USPS I too am waiting on 2 cards,
The Pumpkin King and Hostesswiththemostess. I have seem others have gotten cards from them. We just had a newspaper front page story about how bad the USPS has gotten here, missing mail, lost mail and mail sitting at the PO for days even weeks not getting delivered.

For those wanting to play USPS roulette the next exchange will be Walpurgis I'll start the thread later this week.

I'm in the same boat here our PO has become questionable in their delivery. The newspaper actually a few weeks ago had a front page article about how bad delivery had become , how on one island town workers at a local Store that manages PO Boxes for island residents now had to come every day to knock on the PO's door to collect BAGS of mail to sort as volunteers to place in the boxes rented from their shop. How some BIG city neighborhoods had to rotate days when they got mail. The article said that the Postal higher up say a lack of employees is the reason things are so bad... In the same breath they said the LACK of mail was the cause AND TOOOOOO much online shopping and packages have overwhelmed them.

I got one card left missing from Pumpkin King and also missing is a card I've been expecting from an old childhood friend who sent it over 2 weeks ago.
