Our weather is warmer but that does not mean that the overnight temperatures work with pumpkin growing. While the highs this week will be between 55-65 which is nice, the lows remind me why we really should not plant most things until after Easter.

Lows: Monday: 29, Tuesday: 29, Weds.: 31 Thurs.: 47, Fri.: 42 Saturday: 33 and Sunday: 32.
Our general warm weather growing, flower buying, ect. usually happens after mother's day.

Here in Southern Ohio, I start my fair pumpkins in the next few days. Then I grow them in pots(repotting weekly to allow for root growth)for about a month. Then I transfer to my Hoop house with a smaller hoop house with heating cables and give it a early start. But I am constantly monitoring the plant and weather to make sure it dont get to hot or cold.

My yard is not big but I try to utilize it wisely. I can grow five pumpkins comfortably, maybe a few more. We have put weed blocker down and use raised garden beds. The front yard has not been done yet so I decided this year one side of the cement walk to the porch will get dug up, manured well and will become a large pumpkin patch. My plan is to have a nice size cluster. I want to take the pumpkins and cut off their tops leaving them attached to the vines. Carve the pumpkins as one would then put the pumpkins back with their tops then light them. They will look like they grew as Jack O' Lanterns.
I'm very excited for this Halloween. I haven't really decorated for the last two years so I'm taking Halloween back this fall. I take my vacation and the 30th is my Bday. Fun fun fun.

I am friends with Doug Kisamore, your new Ohio State pumpkin champion at 2195 pounds. I was teasing Doug last night his wife only appeared in pumpkin photographs when he broke the state record last year.

That dirt in Ohio sure is pretty to look at. Every time I see a movie where the bad guys are digging a grave in the woods, I am like, they are not digging that in Georgia.

Yeah, that clay is a dead giveaway when they're filming down here!

I have a section of yard that I was going to expand my raised bed garden into, but the possibility of a move makes me hesitate to put in the effort. Might just get a couple of t-posts to extend the existing fence, and let some pumpkins fend (mostly) for themselves in there.
