...dreaming of warmer weather...I want to get my garden started!!!
The only good thing about February is that it's 28 days.
Hopefully your weather warms up & you can get your seeds started
Temps dropped below freezing last night but then they're headed back up to the 50s. So I decided o start a few Fairytale seeds. Once those sprout ~ I'll start gizmos & other gourds.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I’m so excited to see this thread started! Last year was my best year yet, and I plan on this year being even better! I can’t wait to start prepping the soil, but that won’t be until May and works slows down. This year I’m going with the same seeds, which are the Captain Jack and Gladiator by Harris Seeds. Tax season ends in mid April, then in May I’ll start rototilling, then corn gets planted early June, then the pumpkins around June 20. Good luck to everyone!

My older sister is a bit of a botanist, this being said, she got me a pack of seeds of "The good stuff" which are Baker Creek Heirloom brand. Anyways, I gonna try a new method and make 3 - 4 mounds. Im gonna dig maybe 2' down and fill those holes with manure and leaf compost, maybe some 10-10-10 fertilizer also. Then hope, and pray, for the best.

Lol...I followed Mayor's post from my alerts and posted in 2022. Trying to keep my posts in the right year. :)

Good to see you Mayor. I was wondering if I called you out about starting in July whether you would pop-up sooner. I know it is in my head, but once the new thread gets started I feel obligated to do something. lol I carved out my new patch today. With my Georgia clay it took four or five passes just to get it kind of tilled.

The patch is between 900 and 1200 sq. ft. It is kind of a trapezoid so my math is on the sketchy side. I will throw out a bag of gypsum this week, I just checked the big box price and it is still less than $15 for a 40lb bag. Gypsum is suppose to help breakdown clay and is calcium rich which pumpkins love. I am not sure if really makes a difference on the clay but for $15 and being a cheap way to add calcium, it always makes my early season fertilizer mix.

Doesn't look like much now, but give it time.

I’m so jealous! I can’t wait to be at the point that I can start planting my seeds! I still have three months until I’ll be ready to plant.

@WitchyKitty & @Mayor of Haddonfield - I'm just insane & always start pumpkins earlier then most people. Besides the big box (industrial) growers have started their seeds. Those plants will be packed, shipped & start arriving in stores 8 weeks. I like to give the big guys a little competition. My plants are from my seeds, adapted to the environment & healthier. So yeah, I'm certified insane

Hey, does anyone remember the really cool Long Stems on the pumpkins last year? I've been looking around & found this website. Most of these appear to be F1 Hybrids. They sure are pretty but idk how well they'd grow 23 Of The Latest Pumpkin Varieties

Pumpkins, gourds, squash, ect. germinate and grow FAST indoors...and it will be months, yet, before its warm enough to plant warm weather plants outdoors. If I started, now, I'd probably have full vines exploding out of my tiny pop up greenhouse in the basement before I could plant them, lol.

Our weather is warmer but that does not mean that the overnight temperatures work with pumpkin growing. While the highs this week will be between 55-65 which is nice, the lows remind me why we really should not plant most things until after Easter.

Lows: Monday: 29, Tuesday: 29, Weds.: 31 Thurs.: 47, Fri.: 42 Saturday: 33 and Sunday: 32.
