I have zero mechanical ability, but I LOVE the idea. I think any subtle/creatively creepy and historical props are just fabulous! I do think I've seen someone here make one of these before and it was really nifty... https://www.halloweenforum.com/general-halloween/116608-where-term-saved-bell-really-comes.html Found the reference! Mr. Grimsley started a thread on it back in 2008-09! https://www.halloweenforum.com/halloween-props/72377-new-prop-effect-idea-dead-ringer.html The tech...

Yes, I have one neighbor who does sort of big-ish, but nothing compared to what we do. Wish they all would go big.

Not necessarily as big as my yard display, but I've noticed that over 15 years I've inspired neighbors to decorate. (which is wonderful) The more the better in my opinion.

I've used some LEDS that would flicker and some that wouldn't but that was a few years ago so . Somewhere in my garage I still have a box of fuses, cords, and boxes. If I get the time to look for them I will put one together and test with the LED bulbs we use at home.

Being far from the east coast, I've never seen similar, but can narrow down the possibilities significantly. It's clearly Hemiptera order, so related to stink bugs and the like. How certain are you it was eating on the sunflowers? Given the rather significant camo on this guy, I'd almost suggest a species of ambush bug. Potentially feeding on aphids or something similar. Do you have oak trees near by any chance?

There's a how too on making the below. Very simple to make and cheap....under $7. I use to make and sell these a few years ago and after making 25 or so It only took me 5 minutes from start to finish . You dont have to use the box a electrical drop cord and the fuse and tape will work just as well....under 3 minutes of work. and less than $5. Works best with a 40 or below watt bulb and in a haunted house setting, is all you need. If that.

Happy I could help! And thanks for the compliment. I try to change up each window every year, but this was one of my favorite windows. I'll have to bring that into the house for the party this year and make room for the next scene... whatever that will be. :)

Still searching for all of these props. Just added three more props to the list as well: Zombie Cowboy (2007), Lifesize Grim Reaper (2008), and Frankencuted (Or Frank-N-Cuted, 2008).

*glances around* So, um, I'm just going to say it... I normally park on the street. Am I unintentionally being an *******? I mean, I understand the being upset with clutter, blocking the walkway, and people parking in front of YOUR place. But the house across the road parking on their side of the street? I don't see how that would be any business of mine. We've got 4 cars on 4 very different schedules. While we can all fit in the drive, it's a lot easier if I park on the...

Hey Poodles. For a slightly different effect than the flame bulbs JW posted (which are pretty cool), you can also purchase a device that makes lights flicker. LightsAlive makes something called a "MiniFlicker 2"... https://lightsalive.com/miniflicker2.html. It can run up to two devices via standard plug. They're not cheap though at $99. I bought one last year to use in our Freddy "basement" display in one of the front windows. Here's a video to show you how it looks. The fixture on top of...

Well the Big Moose were aggressively bursting from the pots to where I risked damaging the roots if I didn't get them in, so they're out. It's not a hoop house, but it'll have to do. The third row was inside some corn (in case these need shade), so I couldn't row cover it, just hoping this week of wet doesn't bring more hail.

I live about 20 minutes from there! It's super awesome. There's actually houses here & there all thru Romeo that are done over the top. I make a point of going every year during the day so I can check out all the details. The local high school football team helps out during ToT, keeping an eye on things & helping with lost kids, etc because insane amounts of people go there. I looked at a house that was for sale a couple years ago - most of the houses on Tillson are cool old Victorian...

Grunge it up first. Paint it gun metal gray or a like color. Cover the padded parts with dirty sheets. Agree that a mannequin of sorts would look cool. I'd have the thing in full recline position and a mad scientist actor next to it. Hell, use a live actor in place of the mannequin and let him and the doctor play off the crowd with some dialogue, etc...

Wow... this is discouraging to read. :( I wish people would be inspired rather than get more lazy. That's crazy! Many people stop by to say they love the decorations, or alter their normal walking routine to pass by the house every day, but I wish some would get more into the spirit. UnOrthodOx - That's great that you've had some success inspiring others! One of the reason's I asked this was because I came across some videos about a neighborhood in Romeo, Michigan... Tillson St. Man I...

I've been away a while. Howdy! Some big news is that I've been asked by the owner of Guthrie Haunt Scaregrounds to be their new Creative Director! They were ranked last year by 2 ranking sites as 3rd and 5th (respectively) best in Oklahoma. I hope to bump that up for this year!

Hunter's Moon Tombstone: Tutorial

by Terra on 02-11-2014 at 12:19 PM
Hunter's Moon tombstone was made for my latest Secret Reaper victim Lisa48317. On her like list was black cats. That sounded like fun and also an opportunity to try out some fluorescing effects on a tombstone.

Made a video that will help you loads in visualizing the steps needed to make this stone. Please watch:

Graffiti'd Tombstones: Tutorial

by Terra on 05-05-2013 at 12:56 PM
Here's a new twist you can add to your graveyard: Graffiti! Adding graffiti can help make your graveyard transform from the traditional classic Victorian to a gritty, urban one that could fit perfectly in a post-apocalyptic or zombie outbreak-type haunt.

Here's the tutorial video that will give you a quick grasp of how to

Halloweeny Art at KC Art Museum

by Terra on 04-27-2013 at 03:08 PM
Finally was able to drag the hubby to our art museum in Kansas City called the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum. It's a first class museum and if you are ever in town - you may want to spend a few relaxing hours there. This visit I found myself gravitating to the Halloweeny-looking art items and thought I'd share them here.

First though, here is a couple iconic shots of the museum because you may recognize it:

Chained Werewolf - Pneumatic: Tutorial

by Terra on 04-11-2013 at 02:28 PM

Have finally discovered the best use of pneumatic props - as a distraction! Yes, it is counter-intuitive to spend all that time and money making a pneumatic prop just to use as a distraction but today's ToTs are more sophisticated. They look for all the signs of a pneumatic prop so use that to your advantage. All you need here is a ToT taking a second or two hesitation
