*glances around* So, um, I'm just going to say it... I normally park on the street. Am I unintentionally being an *******? I mean, I understand the being upset with clutter, blocking the walkway, and people parking in front of YOUR place. But the house across the road parking on their side of the street? I don't see how that would be any business of mine. We've got 4 cars on 4 very different schedules. While we can all fit in the drive, it's a lot easier if I park on the...

Well the Big Moose were aggressively bursting from the pots to where I risked damaging the roots if I didn't get them in, so they're out. It's not a hoop house, but it'll have to do. The third row was inside some corn (in case these need shade), so I couldn't row cover it, just hoping this week of wet doesn't bring more hail.

Grunge it up first. Paint it gun metal gray or a like color. Cover the padded parts with dirty sheets. Agree that a mannequin of sorts would look cool. I'd have the thing in full recline position and a mad scientist actor next to it. Hell, use a live actor in place of the mannequin and let him and the doctor play off the crowd with some dialogue, etc...

Sitting here listening to a particularly violent hailstorm in the dark of the morning. The sunflowers might be toast (they are generally tough, so maybe not). Most the tomatoes have a row cover on, though, and at least I had decided against trying to push the pumpkins out yet. That's an awesome wagon Kdestra. Who's pup? I can just see him riding down the street in the wagon LOL.

Yeah, I was prepared for a huge fail from the get go, but to have it down to it being eaten is hard to swallow. I'm not set up in any way to prevent such eating in the future either. I actually encourage the likely culprits of cats or skunk (more likely with the digging) to keep away other unwanted things anyway.

Define 'going big'. There's been a marked increase over the last 7 years. I don't think it's coincidental at all that my carving party started 8 years ago. But, I had a haunt for many years before that as well that didn't quite elicit the same response as getting the neighborhood involved with the party seems to have. No, no one 'goes big', as in cover a yard in a haunt, but they 'go small'. They actually decorate. Bats in trees, a couple props here or there, light projections,...

Lesson from the millet experiment. Millet is delicious. That is all. Something dug all of it up and ate it from the garden yesterday/last night, after my cats ate what they could reach indoors.

Don't know that I mentioned, but the seeds I bought this year were coated, so I didn't dare do the baggie method I normally do. I'd been getting nervous since it'd been a week, but we finally have some pumpkins. 3 of the Big Moose have sprung to life. I double checked one of the minis on one of the Early Giants, and they both had barely germinated, so will bee a bit behind. We also sewed a bunch of indian corn I got in a free pack with one of my orders and a bunch more sunflower...

VIDEO: This a project I actually completed for Halloween 2017, but have been lax in finding the time to take some decent pics and shoot a video of it in action. I always loved the Grave-Digging Skeleton, but always wondered if I could re-engineer it in a new way and with a different motor. I figured that since the arms of the skeleton are already attached to the handle of the shovel, why not figure out some way to actually make the arms move the shovel back...

If you are wanting to float the candelabra like an FCG, it will work, just I would recommend using a very slow motor (3 or 4 RPM) for a subtle floating movement. And the crank for your motor will be very short, since the candelabra is not that wide. I would just experiment by mounting your motor and pulleys on the bottom of a flat board. Then try a short crank length and use that as a reference to judge what changes you need from there. In my mind, your idea would look pretty cool. Kind of...

Beetles are my absolute favorite bugs. I know butterflies get all the love, but I find beetles beautiful. Good news is that's a predatory species, eating less desirable things in your yard. That said, here in the west, the painted ladies have gone freaking insane this year. (video is for California, but going on here in Utah too)

The invention of stucco seems to have introduced breeding grounds for all true bugs, allowing them to overwinter and emerge earlier.

Afraid I was much more interested in the bugs at the time...and there was so much bee activity my daughter was afraid of the house, so, no pics. This is a sweat bee that preferred to come to the russians. Huntsman (more commonly known as daddy long legs, but NOT a spider, and not to be confused with the huntsman spider) Longhorned bees would be sleeping on the sunflowers every night/morning until they warmed up in the sun.

  3. Holy crap, am I happy right about now. After months of struggling with losing access to my encrypted password manager, I finally got into it *& my computer* today! YAY!!!! \0/

I've prolly been missed, and as to the reason why... My motherboard fried out of the blue, taking my cpu and my backup drive w/ it, of freaking course. I've been dealing with warranties & the fact that I couldn't access my drives until I had the exact same hardware configuration (dual boot system w/ secure boot). After receiving the motherboard replacement, I have been trying to find a replacement cpu, & Ivy bridge architecture is pretty difficult to come by these days w/o getting raked over the coals by an Amazon 3rd party seller. Even Intel is out of stock themselves, and I've spent the last two months ordering from vendors who didn't bother following up on the special/drop ship orders even after weeks of repeated call inquiries.

I finally found a decent priced used example, & here I am.

So anyway, I've got to get to work, this thing isn't perfect, and I need to do some backing up before reformatting due to my OS'es acting funny and the computer being only partly functional (it's not recognizing my 3Tb & 4 Tb drives, & keeps telling me I need to format them).

@ Oaklawn: Yeah mate, I hear you perfectly. Same/same, the above is only part of it. Take care of yourself, & I'll see you all soon.

Thanks for your comments on my "New Build" thread. I agree with you, Bobzilla knocked that skelly right out of the park. I'm so terribly excited to have him in my hot little's like a dream I keep thinking I'm going to wake up from, and instead of the Bobzilla skeleton, it will be one of those flat, paper skeletons that I can only hang on a door.
  9. Well hiya boils & ghouls, after an extended forced hiatus, we're baa--aaack! Albeit a bit slower than normal, due to a serious service disagreement & phantom billing charges w/ my former ISP...

In any case, I missed you ladies & gents something fierce. Hope you're all doing well, & looking forward to seeing what everyone had going on in my absence. Cheers!
