so sorry for your loss. the positive is that lives can't be replaced but things can--as much as it hurts to lose things that are valuable to you, just be thankful that the truly valuable things are still safe. :)
i have a love/hate relationship with AHS. i haven't seen every season but i've watched several with my wife, and i usually enjoy them while we're watching (some more than others) but when i look back at it after awhile, most of them i'm not sure why i liked them. i suppose that's a mark of a good storyteller, to be able to keep you interested in the moment regardless of how you feel about it long-term.
oh my lord yes. we've stressed for years to do all the cutesy halloweeen-related food, and nobody cares one little bit. they want stuff to eat and drink and they don't care if there's a cheese ball looks like a brain, or if the regular old red punch is called witch's brew or whatever. even the people who bring food or drink as part of the contest don't really go into any halloween theme, mostly.
that doesn't mean it can't be fun to do some of that stuff, just that it's not worth stressing...
