Kymmm, some time ago you told me you like to look at old cemeteries while traveling. This last October I was out in Massachusetts looking at the leaves change. They were beautiful, but while traveling I saw little hidden cemeteries everywhere. Well I'm from Colorado and we only have large organized plots that are frankly boring. I was amazed at how many there were. In one county alone there were 77 cemeteries! Anyway I decided to take a morning and look at a few. Well I had a ball. I was able to go to 7 or 8 plots. They were fantastic, much better than Colorado's. I kept taking photos until the batteries ran out, over 200! So here are a few for you to peruse:
I think you should incorporate the painters into the haunt!
We bought one of those fire and ice spots from Spirit. No idea what we'll do with it. I've got pretty modest hopes this year...stuff going on so I'll be happy if we just get the usual stuff up. But sometimes ideas pop-up at the last minute.
That's funny. This morning mine said, "Come on. I feel like helping with it today." And he helped me get down some of the stuff I was having a hard time getting to in the garage. He said it was a short-term offer, so I jumped on the chance!
Hey Kymmm! Just thought I'd stop by and say Hello! How is your Halloween shaping up? I started putting together some of the old props here - not sure if we'll get to anything new this year - keeping fingers crossed.
We've got a hedge in the back that's probably 20 ft tall and 40 feet long. It's an absolute monster. We tried to get an arbourist to come and cut it down by two thirds so we could manage it and he just flat out said "y'know - it's huge. I don't want to do it. Call me in January when I'm desperate and i'll give you a good price." So we've been trying to kind of keep it in check until then. All sorts of stuff that needs to be done though to get it to the point of just looking neglected. (We also had a big of a bug plague take out some of our hedge in the front so we're trying to get that growing again.)
I know those $25 purchases can get you in trouble. I always think that cheap masks will be a good starting place for stuff, but the bodies can cost a fair bit if you're going for something specific.
I'm super jealous of the unliving portraits - they look very cool. I've been keeping my eyes open for projectors for the last couple years - there's a place here that has surprise one-day sales and they've had some for about $300 periodically but always when I'm too busy to do anything about it. I'm sure they'll be an amazing addition to your haunt though (which is already really amazing). Seems like there's so much potential with projectors.
No real progress on the work front yet. Taking much longer than expected.
Hey Kymmm. Not much news on my end. Not really thinking about Halloween at this point, just trying to get caught up on yard work and other stuff. How about you? How've you been? Are you knee-deep in monsters yet?
I wasn't sure if you still liked the "Nightmare" theme or not anymore. Glad you found it interesting.
Yes I have been working on the 2014 haunt. I have a Monster Crate almost complete. That alone was a large project. It is my first pneumatic (compressed air) prop. It also required a digital controller to tell the compressed air cylinders what to do. It was more complicated than I originally planned, but it is working out well in the end.
I have a new partner helping me with the haunt this year. We had our first work session last weekend. Seems to be going well.
thank you for the comments on the dark alice stuff it was such a fun theme to do . i only have one regret i got rid off almost all the props i made for it 3 truck loads full. i do not have a garage only a shed and i think i was actual burnt out on halloween.
i did not have my motorcycle last year so i worked on halloween 365 day when halloween got here i was burnt out big time.
now i have a motorcycle again and have learned some halloween all year long is good but not putting everything into it all 365 days. lol
now i wish i would have kept the props leason learned next time keep it all.
Ya last year i did dark alice in wounder land. this year thinking of a haunted gothic garden if i do it we are taking vacation to disneyland not to long before halloween so not sure if i can pull of the gothic garden party but will see when if gets closer.
