Sorry wickedwillingwench, I know what you're going through. My husband got what they kept calling a "good" cancer. Which used to just make me wanna slap 'em all because there's really no such thing. He had **bigwordsrecitedfrommemory** nodular sclerosing Hodgkins lymphoma, stage 2B about 12 years ago. He's fine now but going through chemo was awful. He didn't have to do radiation for reasons too long to go into here but it was a very long year going to Georgetown for chemo & then up to...

Just wanted to give a different perspective on the head movement for this build. Here is how mine looks using a second deer motor mounted sideways on the creep's back. The motor connects to a L shaped linkage that runs up into the neck. The bend of the L pivots in a small eye bolt on the top of the skeleton's spine. I opened up the holes that the jaw connects to the skull with so that it flops open very easily, giving some mouth opening and closing action. Mine only goes up and down, but it's...

I used to watch him on PBS in the 80s, long before it was a cool thing to do & just found him fascinating with his "happy little trees" & that huge Afro. I couldn't get over how he could create an entire landscape painting in 30 minutes real time (more or less). Oddly enough he was in the military & was the guy that had to be mean to the recruits & yelled at you all the time, a Sergeant in..wait....the Air Force. He painted in his off time & said when he got out of the service he wouldn't...

LOL! Too funny! :D Well, the rest of my sunflowers have finally been sprouting in my greenhouse so, once the weather gets warm and not windy and raining, again, I'll get those planted out in the garden. I finally have my mini October Pumpkin, Daisy Gourd, Cucumber and Zucchini seeds all in their germination baggies. In a couple days, I should, hopefully, have some germination happening and I can get them potted. Once they get to first true leaf size, outside they will go!! All of them...

Ours is the guy across the street, one house over. These people obviously used to or somehow imagine that they live way out in the country and conduct themselves as such. Dude parks his loud *** truck in the front yard across their sidewalk because the big driveway they have is reserved for cornhole and the multitude of appliances and other junk he accumulates hoping to strike it rich if the price of scrap metal ever comes up. He drives up his next door neighbors driveway, then cuts across...

I haven't experienced anyone going 'big' per se, but as of last year I can safely say that we have noticed a significant increase in general decoration and participation. We definitely see more jacks on porches, more decorations in windows, and even a few yard props / tombstones and lights. There is also one young man that has been coming to examine our layout every year since we started in this location, and he is now old enough that he's begun building his own little yard haunt up the...

I live about 20 minutes from there! It's super awesome. There's actually houses here & there all thru Romeo that are done over the top. I make a point of going every year during the day so I can check out all the details. The local high school football team helps out during ToT, keeping an eye on things & helping with lost kids, etc because insane amounts of people go there. I looked at a house that was for sale a couple years ago - most of the houses on Tillson are cool old Victorian...

Grunge it up first. Paint it gun metal gray or a like color. Cover the padded parts with dirty sheets. Agree that a mannequin of sorts would look cool. I'd have the thing in full recline position and a mad scientist actor next to it. Hell, use a live actor in place of the mannequin and let him and the doctor play off the crowd with some dialogue, etc...

Yep. Slower cranking motor that raises the lid a bit more to reveal treasure inside. Position a skeleton behind the chest with his hands on the lid. so when the lid opens and closes the skelly will look like he is doing it. I envision a pirate skeleton who is trying to get the chest open to steal some booty!

I don't want anyone to think I'm nitpicking or anything. You make your props however you want them to look. I'm a bit of a weirdo who thinks way too much into things to the point that it get a bit ridiculous sometimes. Who really thinks "now if I were a skeleton stirring a cauldron, how would I move my head" besides me? The kids really don't care and won't notice how it moves, only that it does and that's what matters.

Yeah, the costume enhancement is tempting, but I'm afraid the dog might make off with it ...so she could roll in it. (pew!) Love the garden helper, K.! Nice of you to re-home the wagon.

I have a question for you guys that use this type of head movement rig. Why are they almost always made so that the head turns when it goes down and straightens when it's up? If I were stirring a cauldron and leaned over to look into it I wouldn't turn my head away. Just seems to me (being picky) that the animation would look better reversed with the head looking down into the cauldron when it's down then turn to look at visitors when it's up. Just an observation and again, just me being picky...

I found a small crate at work and decided to take a whack at the classic Monster In A Box prop. My version is made to look like an old box that might have been around for many, many years. I used a green light instead of the traditional red just to be different. The monster is an old dollar store vampire mask I did a little reshaping and repainting to so that it looked a bit more creepy and a bit less human. I used a little Bluetooth speaker I also found for free to make an ambient soundtrack...

Hi, Hilda! I would love to submit a couple of your fabulous yard display photos for this upcoming article, but I would not do so without your permission. I will take no offense if you prefer not to share, but your yard is so great. Let me know what you think!

    Thanks for letting me know.

Congratulations on the limb removal. I was worried you were gonna be stumped. We've had so many in-laws visiting I'm thinking of putting my family tree through the wood chipper. I'll be here all week.

Looks like we CAN just scrap the stupid paint off the mirror. Just gotta figure out what nasty little tool is safest for the glass. (My keys scratch everything else up, figured it might work on the paint.)

I am shocked - SHOCKED I tell ya. You mean there's just a mere mortal behind the curtain?

We initially wondered about the mirror but we saw another one there which had a scratch through the paint and thought...How hard could it be? We'll mess around.

It's not so much the organ part. Just looking for some kind of material that would be flexible enough to bend around a corner while strong enough to hold it's shape. We could buy rolls of veneer but it's not super cheap and I don' t know how well it would hold up without a backing. But I appreciate the response. Hope all is going well.

Hey you! Hope setup is going well.

I got two questions for the expert.
    1) We bought a mirror from Micheals that had a skull screened on the front of it - we want to take that off. Seems like a real mirror (it's heavy). Would the stuff you recommend for removing paint off blowmolds work? We don't want to damage the glass (I think the frame is a resin.)
    2) Working on the organ...we're modelling it very loosely on the Haunted Mansion version. The wood curves in the area where the keyboard is. Any thoughts on what we could user there? You just seem to know stuff.

No worries if you're too busy with setup to reply. We'll figure something out.

    Hey,
Those bats are super easy to make
All I did was make a paper bat pattern and transfer the pattern to a light weight piece of black material, cut it out, then I just pinned it to the existing hummingbird body. Painted the motor and ground stake black, and BAM, done
Oh, I painted the hummingbird black too
    Thanks for your nice comments!
