    I remember seeing this craft project a few years ago and thinking it was really cool looking. Yours turned out so lovely! I'd want to make several more so I could do a whole display of them on like a side table or something! https://flamingotoes.com/spooky-crystal-ball-halloween-candlesticks/ For anyone wanting the tutorial!

    Frankie's Girl replied to a thread Pneumatic: how is this movement done? in Halloween Props
    I a sooooo not an expert, but it might be a standard wiper motor attached to a more bendy wire/arm to the upper body on a long throw, set to a faster rpm. I've done a rocking chair using a wiper motor and attaching it with a wire coathanger wire (cut it and then wrapped it around a screw) and I could see some "bounce" in the movement from the wire being more flexible, and could definitely see a faster RPM causing it to flail a bit more... At least this may serve as a bump to get the...

    Happy I could help! And thanks for the compliment. I try to change up each window every year, but this was one of my favorite windows. I'll have to bring that into the house for the party this year and make room for the next scene... whatever that will be. :)

    Hey Poodles. For a slightly different effect than the flame bulbs JW posted (which are pretty cool), you can also purchase a device that makes lights flicker. LightsAlive makes something called a "MiniFlicker 2"... https://lightsalive.com/miniflicker2.html. It can run up to two devices via standard plug. They're not cheap though at $99. I bought one last year to use in our Freddy "basement" display in one of the front windows. Here's a video to show you how it looks. The fixture on top of...

    Wow... this is discouraging to read. :( I wish people would be inspired rather than get more lazy. That's crazy! Many people stop by to say they love the decorations, or alter their normal walking routine to pass by the house every day, but I wish some would get more into the spirit. UnOrthodOx - That's great that you've had some success inspiring others! One of the reason's I asked this was because I came across some videos about a neighborhood in Romeo, Michigan... Hey all. Just curious, have any of your neighbors started decorating ďbigĒ after you started, or after you moved in? Iím sure some of you are lucky enough to live on the same block as other haunters, but Iím curious if anyone here has inspired another nearby to start their own excessive Halloween decorating? It hasnít happened here. Iím just asking because I wish another home on the block would go all out and decorate big. It would be inspiring. The nearest house near here that decorates pretty...

    I've seen a version with a lower pivot point like yours. I don't think it's an issue if you fix your shorter metal connector to the motor. If you don't allow it to swing around the screw so loosely and fix it tight, you will have greater swing, more than 10".

    Thanks J-Man. Sorry I wasn't clear. First and foremost I was looking for battery powered LED lights for the eyes of the ghost and when searching for them, the eBay results come back with tens of thousands of listings, and most where Christmas string lights. I couldn't find what I was looking for, but I just came across some now and can use them for my ghost. Here's what I was struggling to find. To my second question though. I want to use a pair for a Creep to put in the yard. I'm...

    The Joker started a thread Other: Flying Crank Ghost in Halloween Props
    Hey all. I'm thinking of building a flying crank ghost, and potentially a cauldron creep. I need help finding battery powered LED lights for the ghost eyes. What would I search for on eBay or other website to narrow the search, or does anyone have another source. A simple eBay search brings up several thousands of listings, none of which are what I'm looking for. I'm also looking for a plug in version for the creep if I can find them. I'd rather not need to go out and turn on the eyes every...

    That is really disappointing to hear. They had the ability to reach out to you and make things right ,and instead they remove the post completely. Have you contacted them directly over the issue with the mask and also asked about why your review on their site was removed? I would be interested to see what they say for both inquiries. I am going to move this thread into our "reviews" section, but I do hope others post if they have experience with this company - good or bad - is always...

    The cotton candy room could be a "squeeze room" - get batting (used to make quilts) from a fabric store, make a basic shape (I'd suggest using a oval/egg shape out of cardboard and then skin them with the batting) add pool noodles for the handles, spraypaint pink, then hang up from the ceiling. Could even embed a few skulls or even a spare skelly arm hanging out. Would look like cotton candy coocoons similar to Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Best to stagger them down a narrow corridor... ...

    Terry , I feel terrible for not responding sooner. I got a new phone and just got it running on HF. I've been getting excited for the convention, and we got our tickets. We saw that you were going to have a booth this year, and were excited to see you again. But then you apparently backed out? That didn't seem likely to me , so I hope all is well. I'm looking forward to seeing you again, and if you have any questions still please fire away.

New 2011 props - new tutorials to come

by Herman Secret on 08-29-2011 at 09:33 PM
I have been working on some new props for my haunt and another prop that I have been asked for help on.

First, a static zombie coming out of a drain - this was inspired by a piece of packing styrofoam that reminded me of a drain cover

Next, not a new prop, but repaired and repainted my skull fountain

I have also started on a Gibbet, or skeleton cage if you prefer, made from plumbers tape. This will be an how to - and a very easy build. If you can use

The ups and downs of haunting

by Herman Secret on 08-06-2011 at 04:03 PM
Well, I have been making some progress on props this year. Finally got around to making a toe pincher coffin - full size (well 5'6" tall). This year am abandoning the styrofoam panels for the board up windows (tired of repairing them year after year!) and I have made replacement panels from old fence panels. repaired a couple of old props, including a zombie guy I made a few years back - filled the hollow head with great stuff foam to strengthen it. After about 5 attempts at repainting, finally

West Coast Haunters Convention

by Herman Secret on 02-02-2011 at 08:34 PM
Having taken a sabbatical from the Halloween scene for the last couple of months, suddenly things are starting to get back into full swing.

This is due, in part, to the 2nd Annual West Coast Haunters Convention in May. Yours truly has been invited to host one of the workshops, and this will be on the opening day.

I will be doing a 60 minute workshop on Prop Building Tips and Tricks and will feature some of the props featured in my tutorials. I also hope to have a

by Herman Secret on 10-24-2010 at 06:28 AM
Yesterday it rained, which wasn't the problem. The wind was though

So far the damage tally is :

One tombstone broken;
One window panel for the boarded up windows, blown off and damaged;
Three tombstones down;
Witches, monks & ground breaker blown over;
Boards on boarded up door off

Have gathered up all the casualties, done some repairs and ready now to put things back as they were.

It's 7:30am ... it's

Not happy with my local spirit store manager

by Herman Secret on 10-17-2010 at 07:30 AM
Back in May, I met the lady that runs the local spirit store to me, at the west coast haunters convention. We spent some time talking and one of the subjects was regarding the damaged/broken merchandise that they get.

I also offered to help when she found the location for the store, setting up the store. She never contacted me about the store set up.

When the store opened I went along to see what was available this year and when she saw me seemed visibly embarrassed.
