Aw, bummer it isn't there anymore. I follow so many Halloween/Samhain/Autumn tumblrs, and I'd have added another. Loved the article, "Old Movies Aren't Scary Anymore." As a classic film horror aficionado (horror movies from the days of the studio system), I hope people find the article and learn a little. I have an active, year round Halloween/Samhain/Autumn blog here: https://october-blood.tumblr.com/ And here on the site's blogs, my Vintage Halloween blog. Not updated in ages...

I remember seeing this craft project a few years ago and thinking it was really cool looking. Yours turned out so lovely! I'd want to make several more so I could do a whole display of them on like a side table or something! https://flamingotoes.com/spooky-crystal-ball-halloween-candlesticks/ For anyone wanting the tutorial!

Frankie's Girl replied to a thread Pneumatic: how is this movement done? in Halloween Props
I a sooooo not an expert, but it might be a standard wiper motor attached to a more bendy wire/arm to the upper body on a long throw, set to a faster rpm. I've done a rocking chair using a wiper motor and attaching it with a wire coathanger wire (cut it and then wrapped it around a screw) and I could see some "bounce" in the movement from the wire being more flexible, and could definitely see a faster RPM causing it to flail a bit more... At least this may serve as a bump to get the...

I have zero mechanical ability, but I LOVE the idea. I think any subtle/creatively creepy and historical props are just fabulous! THANK YOU for that. Looks like you got a lot of ideas from this. My first thoughts: Add straps and electrodes for old school electro-shock therapy. A Frankenstein's monster kind of thing. Alien Autopsy

Happy I could help! And thanks for the compliment. I try to change up each window every year, but this was one of my favorite windows. I'll have to bring that into the house for the party this year and make room for the next scene... whatever that will be. :)

Hey Poodles. For a slightly different effect than the flame bulbs JW posted (which are pretty cool), you can also purchase a device that makes lights flicker. LightsAlive makes something called a "MiniFlicker 2"... https://lightsalive.com/miniflicker2.html. It can run up to two devices via standard plug. They're not cheap though at $99. I bought one last year to use in our Freddy "basement" display in one of the front windows. Here's a video to show you how it looks. The fixture on top of...

I haven't experienced anyone going 'big' per se, but as of last year I can safely say that we have noticed a significant increase in general decoration and participation. We definitely see more jacks on porches, more decorations in windows, and even a few yard props / tombstones and lights. There is also one young man that has been coming to examine our layout every year since we started in this location, and he is now old enough that he's begun building his own little yard haunt up the...

Wow... this is discouraging to read. :( I wish people would be inspired rather than get more lazy. That's crazy! Many people stop by to say they love the decorations, or alter their normal walking routine to pass by the house every day, but I wish some would get more into the spirit. UnOrthodOx - That's great that you've had some success inspiring others! One of the reason's I asked this was because I came across some videos about a neighborhood in Romeo, Michigan... I love this idea. Last Halloween my child was super stoked to be offered a bowl of little PlayDoh jars to pick from. She exclaimed that it was the best Halloween treat yet. :) That made the woman handing them out very happy.

Hey all. Just curious, have any of your neighbors started decorating ďbigĒ after you started, or after you moved in? Iím sure some of you are lucky enough to live on the same block as other haunters, but Iím curious if anyone here has inspired another nearby to start their own excessive Halloween decorating? It hasnít happened here. Iím just asking because I wish another home on the block would go all out and decorate big. It would be inspiring. The nearest house near here that decorates pretty...

I've seen a version with a lower pivot point like yours. I don't think it's an issue if you fix your shorter metal connector to the motor. If you don't allow it to swing around the screw so loosely and fix it tight, you will have greater swing, more than 10".

The Joker replied to a thread Other: Flying Crank Ghost in Halloween Props
Thanks J-Man. Sorry I wasn't clear. First and foremost I was looking for battery powered LED lights for the eyes of the ghost and when searching for them, the eBay results come back with tens of thousands of listings, and most where Christmas string lights. I couldn't find what I was looking for, but I just came across some now and can use them for my ghost. Here's what I was struggling to find. To my second question though. I want to use a pair for a Creep to put in the yard. I'm...

The Joker started a thread Other: Flying Crank Ghost in Halloween Props
Hey all. I'm thinking of building a flying crank ghost, and potentially a cauldron creep. I need help finding battery powered LED lights for the ghost eyes. What would I search for on eBay or other website to narrow the search, or does anyone have another source. A simple eBay search brings up several thousands of listings, none of which are what I'm looking for. I'm also looking for a plug in version for the creep if I can find them. I'd rather not need to go out and turn on the eyes every...

That is really disappointing to hear. They had the ability to reach out to you and make things right ,and instead they remove the post completely. Have you contacted them directly over the issue with the mask and also asked about why your review on their site was removed? I would be interested to see what they say for both inquiries. I am going to move this thread into our "reviews" section, but I do hope others post if they have experience with this company - good or bad - is always...

I'm baaack. Phantasmechanics.com has finally returned, with free instructions for building your own hitchhiking ghosts, as well as my signature piece the FCG. I was fortunate enough to go inside the ballroom at the Orlando Mansion on my last trek to Disneyworld. It's a pleasure to be aboard, and if I can help anyone stuck creating an effect, please feel free to ask!
