I use DJ style lighting effects. 9watt RGB lights. Super cheap, lots of colors. My $13 lights have been creating a water effect for a decade now.

I also search eBay for the really old iPods. You can shuffle and repeat tracks. They power all my various soundtracks. Pick up a cheap "boom box" from the Goodwill, and you're in business!
These units are great for the money. Very similar to another store's 400w. I'll be honest, I abuse mine. I leave them out for the weeks that lead up to Halloween, I never empty them of fog juice and I've never cleaned them out out. They last several years. I'm on year three. Plugged it in...
Love it! Perhaps some wires or tubes. I liked the nuts idea. Hot glue a couple. Maybe a battery powered set of mini LED lights. Check my Area 51 album out. I took a random piece of machinery and decorated it up for an alien theme haunt.
