  1. Static: My Overly-Ambitious Prop Idea for 2018

    Halloween Props
I wrote to the folks at Kennywood and got a quick reply from a Mr. Rob Henninger, who is the Director of Maintenance and Construction. He wrote: Bruce, Yes, it is a rubber product. There are thicker pieces of recycled black rubber as a base. The colored rubber top coat is made up of much...
  2. Static: My Overly-Ambitious Prop Idea for 2018

    Halloween Props
This is going to make far more sense to you folks who grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and visited Kennywood Park. :) At Kennywood, they have an attraction called Noah's Ark, which is entered through a whale's mouth as seen below. The red tongue of the whale is a type of soft/spongy material that...
  3. Static: Pennywise the Dancing Clown

    Halloween Props
Yeah, I know what you mean by "good enough". Ours was the same way. I don't get why you can get a spot-on mask of Karloff's mummy or Frankenstein, or any one of a hundred other characters, but after all these years no one has come up with a spot-on mask for Curry's Pennywise.
  4. Static: Pennywise the Dancing Clown

    Halloween Props
We were really happy with our Pennywise costume pieces, I just wish they would have stayed on the mannequin but the second our son realized he fit into the suit the idea of a static prop went bye bye. These are some pics of him at the Spooky Empire event in Orlando. With Georgie (this kid...
  5. Static: Pennywise the Dancing Clown

    Halloween Props
I think doing a good 1990 Pennywise is about impossible. No one has ever come out with a mask or bust that you can look at and say "That's Pennywise!" There are lots that you can look at and say "That's supposed to be Pennywise", but none that are just like Tim Curry appears in the movie.
  6. Static: Learned Hard Lesson About Silicone Masks

    Halloween Props
That lesson is... don't use them! We've been using Brian Penickas's Jeepers Creeper mask that we bought from him seven years ago on our Creeper figure, and it has been awesome. Lots of character, great look, and durable as all get out. This year we decided to use a WFX silicone mask. These look...
  7. Halloween Observations 2017

    General Halloween
    1. About 90% of kids who came to the house were in costume this year, which is a marked change from the past few years where maybe a third would be in costume and the rest in street clothes. 2. This was the second year that Target screwed me on the big bags of candy. It looks like they are fun...
  8. Depressed on Halloween

    General Halloween
Great news! I found your problem? "Right now, I'm sitting at home doing homework and I can't stop thinking about this day. I didn't go to a fun costume parties, didn't carve pumpkins, somewhat decorated the house (but I live in a gated house so no one even stops by on Halloween). I didn't get to...
  9. Halloween trunk or treat mishap :(

    General Halloween
Hate to be the contrarian, but I honestly can't believe you would ever think it would be a good idea to take horror props to a church trunk or treat. The folks who go there are the ones who don't want their kids to be subjected to the scary side of the holiday. School events are for people who...
  10. Halloween Meets Law and Order

    General Halloween
We finished getting our haunted maze done in time, and started getting visitors about 5:30. As usual, there were some kids who were afraid to go through and lots of parents as well. About 8:00, a local police officer pulled up in her cruiser. She's been coming through the maze for the past...
  11. And Then... Disaster Strikes!

    General Halloween
So, the kids were outside until about 2:00 AM but they finished getting everything back up and ready to go. :) We learned an important trick. The original walls were made using filter material and black sheet plastic stretched horizontally between uprights that were 8-10 feet apart. When the...
  12. And Then... Disaster Strikes!

    General Halloween
What type of pipe did you use? There are different grades of PVC pipe. Ours is holding up pretty well. The wind was howling again yesterday, and the pipe was bending a bit but not breaking like the wood did.
  13. Another Pennywise Win!

    General Halloween
Yes. My son put some plastic grocery bags in there to lift it up. We also cut the eyes out.
  14. Another Pennywise Win!

    General Halloween
It's a mask, but people kept asking if it was make up because they couldn't see a bottom to it. What we did was super glue the ruffled collar to the bottom of the mask, which brought the collar up and hid that it's a mask. :)
  15. Another Pennywise Win!

    General Halloween
My son wore the Pennwise costume I bought for use as a prop to the Spooky Empire event this past weekend, and he and his wife who was dressed as Giggles the clown, had several hundred pictures taken of them, but one of those pics ended up being used for an article about the event that appeared...
