Thanks for all of the positive comments! I appreciate all of them. chubstuff - yes, you said a mouthful. Although I have come up with many original props over the years, most of the animated props I've built were originally conceived by another haunter. It wasn't until 2002 when I was first on the internet that I realized "Hey, I could actually build my own Halloween props". And if I built if myself, I know exactly how to repair it if it breaks. We all inspire each other and I've never...

Looks kind of like the swaying zombie prop mechanism. One of our own forum members, Diabolik, runs Spider Hill Props, and he sells a mechanism that might work for you. Or you can build your own.

I haven't seen them in a while, but if you could attach a vibrating motor to the "pole" holding the bell, when triggered it would shake the bell violently enough to ring like crazy. That would also free you from having to use string. You can make your own vibrating motor by attaching a half circle of wood/metal to the shaft of a fast motor. Probably at least 50 to 60 RPM. Even this one might do:...

Great looking prop! I need to totally re-do my cauldron creep. Looking at your video, I think you would get more arm movement/motion if your stirring stick was straight instead of being curved. But, maybe you designed it that way. As far as the spine, I wonder if you could make or extend the current spine, to the hip, with something flexible, like a piece of rubber or plastic of some sort. Then paint it to match the spine color. It would move with your motor and still give the illusion of a...

VIDEO: This a project I actually completed for Halloween 2017, but have been lax in finding the time to take some decent pics and shoot a video of it in action. I always loved the Grave-Digging Skeleton, but always wondered if I could re-engineer it in a new way and with a different motor. I figured that since the arms of the skeleton are already attached to the handle of the shovel, why not figure out some way to actually make the arms move the shovel back...

If you are wanting to float the candelabra like an FCG, it will work, just I would recommend using a very slow motor (3 or 4 RPM) for a subtle floating movement. And the crank for your motor will be very short, since the candelabra is not that wide. I would just experiment by mounting your motor and pulleys on the bottom of a flat board. Then try a short crank length and use that as a reference to judge what changes you need from there. In my mind, your idea would look pretty cool. Kind of...

I've built many versions of an Animated Ouija board over the last ten years or so and they are not really that hard to build. Here's a link to a tutorial I made many years ago on how to build one. I used to sell these boards on E-bay, so I'm guessing between all those I sold and the ones I made for friends I have probably built 50 to 60 of them. Still have a few...

He's talking about these: I used one for a prop once, but I manually triggered it off and on with a remote control. Not the easiest way to do it, I'm sure.

I'm going to try and get on it next week or so? I have to be ready by May 29th but this HUGE haunt build is eating all my free time. Hoping to limit my projects to just one or two new things for this event. I have an Indoraptor mask I want to try to make it look like it's attacking fom inside a crate via wiper motor too..sigh. I mentioned the solar lights and using them as the beacons on top of the fence? I lucked out and found Lowes had their Stained Glass spray paint on clearance...

notjustaphaze started a thread Lighting: candle help and ideas in Halloween Props
I recently had a conversation with a friend that works at a custom lighting company. Some of her lamps have plastic candles. She has been throwing away the extra ones. She just gave me my first batch of the leftover candles. They already have factory candle wax drips on them. They also come with a plastic sleeve to go on the inside to cover up any wiring. My only problem is that they are all only 4 inches tall and 1 inch wide so I will have to wire them. Give me some ideas how to use these. And...

I'm sketching out ideas for our Dino Park in the Dark event which starts in June. I'm thinking to make fencing using 3 8' 2x4 per post. I'm planning to make an "I" beam by turning the middle one sideways, sandwhiching it between the other two and screwing them together. I'm going to stand them up hammering those green stakes Lowes sells in the ground and screwing them to each one, easy up/easy down. I'll paint them grey, drill holes and insert painted grey rope from the wire. Solar lights...

Great. It's not nearly as intimidating as it seems, and a very rewarding prop. You will get tons of comments on it. Good luck, and I'm here for you if I can help.

I thought that was the one you were referring to. It definately has good torque. I use one to run some spiders attached to it like a FCG. It says continuous duty, but I do not use it continuous for too long of a time, as it is part of an animation that has it cycle on and off intermitently. I would definately recommend it, and have not had any problems, but I probably only have maybe 10 hours of total use on it, so I would not be a good guage of long term dependability.
