Thanks, alucard. He will have a lantern. I found a kerosene lantern (at least I think it's kerosene...do they even sell that anymore?) at Family Dollar for $3.00. Because it was a seasonal item, it was discounted another 25%. A little black paint covered up the fact that it was green previously, but I'm thinking of some other, lighter color instead -- gold, perhaps? -- so that it stands out a little more.
So emboldened have I become that I'm thinking of taking out the burning and installing a electric light fixture in him. Would've been a good idea to have wired him from the beginning, but that's what happens when you're headstrong -- start building, planning be damned!
But since he will (may) have a light feature, perhaps I don't need to repaint the lantern. We'll see.
I know what you mean about --start building, planning be dammed, I am the same way you are always thinking about the things you should have done. I had found a tutorial about aging and wiring a lantern mine turned out pretty good, my only complaint was the led was not very bright. I took the instructions and everything I had bought from radio shack back to the store and asked them what I could do to make it brighter. They were so cool spent alot of time trying different things. The best part about having them help me at the store was, I didn't have to pay for items they opened at the store that didn't work they just taped up the package, but if I had brought the item home and opened it I would not be able to return it go figure.
Anyways here is the link of the tutorial I followed hope it helps, by the way when I made mine it was the first time I solder wasn't as hard is I thought it was going to be. http://www.bloodsworthmanor.com/haunt/lantern.htm
Good luck if you decide to go this way at least you won't have to worry about an electric cord. Also if you decide to make it I will tell you the changes I made to make it brighter.
Thanks for the link! I'm a Halloween website "collector" and I hadn't come across this one yet. I'm definitely going to try the wiring scheme outlined here. Thanks again.
