Happy I could help! And thanks for the compliment. I try to change up each window every year, but this was one of my favorite windows. I'll have to bring that into the house for the party this year and make room for the next scene... whatever that will be. :)

I've made trees from the brown craft paper too. Depends how close up everyone will be getting and how dark the room will be. It worked for what we needed pretty well. Save that paper when it comes in your Amazon deliveries!

Oh, and that you tube tutorial is perfect. I could TOTALLY do that! I've fixed enough old lamps to feel comfortable with that process. Looks pretty basic!

GREAT idea JW- Thank you! I had not idea these bulbs came in any colors other than the orange. My laundry room is attached to the kitchen and the door is glass. Would be cool to put these in laundry room and mask the glass as you mentioned and maybe have some sort of imposing silhouette figure on the other side of the glass. Could be a super neat effect. Love it!

I used to watch him on PBS in the 80s, long before it was a cool thing to do & just found him fascinating with his "happy little trees" & that huge Afro. I couldn't get over how he could create an entire landscape painting in 30 minutes real time (more or less). Oddly enough he was in the military & was the guy that had to be mean to the recruits & yelled at you all the time, a Sergeant in..wait....the Air Force. He painted in his off time & said when he got out of the service he wouldn't...

Iíve made demonic trees. They are good indoors and outdoors. You might be able to adapt this tutorial I put together. Pictures in this thread. https://www.halloweenforum.com/tutorials-and-step-by-step/200917-how-build-demonic-tree.html

I don't want to sound like a debbie-downer but the reality is that most of the store-bought props are of extremely low quality. You will find many posts on this forum similar to yours about them working for one season and then nothing. I seriously doubt you will find any parts for the prop so the best you can do is open it up and see if there is something obvious like a blown fuse, a wire that has become disconnected or a burned up component on the controller board. If you find something like...

Our first year in the new house so outside will be fairly general and laid back to get an idea of how the neighborhood goes. Inside, for our party, we're doing a haunted playroom and my wife and I will be the creepy kids. Time to hit yard sales for old toys to trick out.

I finally made a tree so here is an idea for the basic parts then you can add creepy stuff to it. But this works really well and very sturdy.

Ok here is a quick video of it in operation. The box I have on the top has the sand we put in our plastic pumpkins so it is about 40 lbs of weight. I am sure it will handle two skeleton dancers that weigh about 10 lbs.

LOL! Too funny! :D Well, the rest of my sunflowers have finally been sprouting in my greenhouse so, once the weather gets warm and not windy and raining, again, I'll get those planted out in the garden. I finally have my mini October Pumpkin, Daisy Gourd, Cucumber and Zucchini seeds all in their germination baggies. In a couple days, I should, hopefully, have some germination happening and I can get them potted. Once they get to first true leaf size, outside they will go!! All of them...

We are doing Night at the Museum this year. Last year after Halloween I bought a 9 foot T-rex skeleton, that cemented it!

I like both of those ideas. Might have to alter my treasure chest to slowly open and close and add a crate with a sea monster in it. Thinking about making tentacles that move when the box comes to life. Thanks for the ideas!

Since we have hoped from base to base for the last 20 years I never get to see if things eventually 'go big'. However, I notice the first year we are the only ones to really put out much for Halloween and then the next year we see more. Then we move and start over again:(. But since my husband just retired, we are now living in a hopefully more permanent home and can watch Halloween grow.

So several years ago my wife had the idea of having Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers in our display (both skeletons). Like most props I make it is my wifes idea that i make become reality. So here it is. Stared out with an octagonal frame that is 47.5" from point to point. Bottom layer is 1x6 treated. Top layer is 1x4 with 2x3 uprights.

I hear ya. We always seem to get the neighbors who think they own every yard in the neighborhood as well. Currently, we live next to the only music blaring, front yard partying until late at night, park in front of our yard, dogs roaming in everyone's front yard neighbors. Ugh! Everyone else is quiet and respectful with well maintained yards and restrained pets. People think just because they live somewhere a while that they are entitled to do anything they please. Sucks cause they are...
