I just noticed a request in my album wanting to know how we "built" Freddy's boiler room in our house. Frankly, there's not much to tell.
Needed:
- Two rolls of Scene Setters - the top and bottom are sold separately
- Several sharp razor blades or utility knife blades - for some reason the blades don't stay sharp long and a dull blade will tear (makes a curled plastic edge) rather than cut.
- 3 m scotch tape - tried tacky tape, but in our case it couldn't hold the tension for this large of sheet.
- Special effects DVD or video
We have a large entertainment center surrounding our 62 inch Mitsubishi DLP HDTV. We used Scene Setters' Boiler Room rolls to wrap the front and sides of the unit. We used scotchtape to attach to the back and top trying to minimize visible attachments that would need to be cleaned off of the wood later. Obviously, we trimmed around the edge of the screen of the TV and did a fair job of hiding the attachement on the front of the door that has the A/V components behind it. You can see it if you look closely to the right of the TV Screen. I found a special effects DVD that had the fire you see playing on the TV. The fire roars too.
When removing the Scene Setters, do not pull the scotch tape off of the Scene Setter - the tape will remove the pattern printed on the plastic. Either cut at the edge of the plastic, or fold the tape to the underside of the plastic. I like to fold it under making that spot stronger than the rest of the plastic and also making it easier to spot the mounting point next year.
BTW, our remote worked THROUGH the plasic cover. We still needed access for DVDs.
