I know there are many fine tuts on this subject. Here is one that I hope will help newer haunters create a simple yet very convincing fence. It is not uncommon for people come up and touch it to see if it is real.

**WORKING WITH POWER TOOLS IS DANGEROUS!! YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN**

    Materials:

One 8' 2x4 will yield two sections

1/2" PVC thin wall water pipe

    7/8" forstner bit

Ornate garden fencing of your choosing

Power tools: table saw, drill press, chop saw, finish nailer or small screws.

    Step 1:
Start with cutting your 2x4's to a finished length of 93 3/16. Then mark the ends of each finished 2x4. This will allow for smooth assembly. If you have a hole slightly off it will fit fine with this important step.

    Step 2:
Measure 3" from either end for your starting spot. From your starting mark, each center will be 5 3/4". I cut a piece of scrape wood to 5 3/4" and used it to mark the 2x4 all the way down. At the end you shoud have the same 3". Now take your 7/8" forstner bit and drill your holes on the 5 3/4" centers you marked. Do your best to center the bit on the 2x4 leaving the same distance on both sides. If you are a little off it will not make a difference on your assembly because you marked the ends of your 2x4s .

    Step 3:
Now rip each 2x4, 1/2" thick. Each 2x4 will yield 6 pieces or 2 sections of fencing.

Here is a pick of the 2x4s with holes. Note the ends marked to assure matched assembly.

    Step 4:
The small fence spindles are 27" and the longer ones are 36". Cut the 10' pieces of PVC to the above sizes.

Here is the pvc ready to go.

    Step 4:
Before you assemble you may want to paint everything first. It is a bit tedious painting after assembly. I bought a gallon of cheap exterior flat black for mine and tea stained with red rustoleum ( had some laying around).
Now slide your pvc into the holes. Assembly will start at the top. The top of the pvc pieces will be flush with the top rail. There is 19" between the top rail and the next. There is 5" between the middle and bottom. As you work from right to left or left to right (it doesn't matter) you will use a 3' piece on holes 2, 8, 9, and 15. You use 27" pieces on the others. Once you have all of the pvc pieces in place you can either pin nail our use small screws through the wood into the pvc to secure it together.

Here you can see I cut spacers 19" and 5" long. I would cut several of each. This makes assemble quick and accurate.

    Step 5:
Before you nail or screw the top, insert whatever you are using for your ornate top. Below is a picture of what I perfer to use. They will slide into the holes you drilled. You will need 4 pieces for each fence section.

There you have it. I hope that some of you find this useful. To secure the fence in the gound I simple slide the fence down over metal rods.
