Okay here's my first tutorial so go easy on me.
I built this type of machine years ago for a Christmas play
but it works for anything. (SORRY No Pics)
Parts needed.
1. 55 Gallon Drum with removable top that has the ring around it
2. 18 inch piece of conduit 1/2 or 3/4 inch your choice
3.Aluminum dryer hose you see why in a minute
4. Metal basket for dry ice
5. 2 heating elements from hot water tank
6. Small coffee can
7. Blower from wood stove
8.Plenty of dry ice
Now for the build. First cut a hole in the lid fro your plunger your choice of what size.Next cut 2 holes fro heating elements near the bottom of the drum one on each side. Now cut your holes for the dryer hose to fit into again one on each side toward the top you can use the small coffee cans to put into those holes
and the slip your hose over the cans and secure them.
Now install the heating elements into the drum be sure to silicone around them so no leaks later you want to do this inside and out.
Now connect your electrical wires to the elements(I used an old extension cord for this). Note!! When you wire this up do for 220 volts or just use 2 110 outlets. Next you'll attach your basket to your plunger handle Do not use PVC
for your handle because the water will melt it. I found out the hard way.
Now connect your dryer hose to the drum again do not use plastic as this will melt from the water. Now connect the blower to one of the dryer hoses you do not want a big blower because you want the fog to seep out of the hose and stay close to the ground for the effect to work right. By now you should see where this is going so connect your other dryer hose to the outlet of the drum
and you'll want plenty of hose so as to move it far enough away from the drum
this is so that no one hears the plunger moving. Okay you should have everything connected now fill up your drum with water above your elements to check for leaks. No leaks? Cool!! fill the drum the rest of the way you need to have the water come up at least 3/4 of the way for ice to be dropped into.
Now plug in the elements and let the water get really hot. CAUTION!!! be careful when opening the lid so as not to get scalded by the steam. Furthermore DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE ALLOW CHILDREN NEAR THIS
Be cause of the heat. After the water gets hot you're ready to play.
Put about a pound or more of dry ice in the basket close the lid turn on your blower plunge the ice up and down and you should have fog pouring out of your hose. For best effects use another coffee can in your fog hose and flatten it a little it causes the fog to spread out better and don't forget to add the blacklights for for that eerie look. At night this looks so cool especially when it lays on the ground and sometimes gets deep to walk through. Questions? Comments? Spook now or forever hold your peace.
