My time this year was short for setting up Halloween decorations but, certainly one of the best items that I made this year was the easiest and the CHEAPEST!!!! Boarded up windows got me the most compliments and, like I said, easy as pie.

Go to a store and get:
    Screw in hooks
    a wood pallet
    a staple gun
    String

I had all this on hand so that made it pretty cheap. You can usually pick up wooden pallets for free also. Stores will usually put them out with recyclables. Just ask 1st so they don't think your stealing their garbage.

Outside, take the hooks and screw them in above your windows but make sure that they are to the outside top, So when you put string on the hooks, it doesn't hang down over the windows. One on each side of the window. Now take your string and tie a piece on each hook, letting the string hang down past the bottom of the window. ( One piece for each side)

Next, beat the crap out of your wooden pallet, to get yourself some nice pieces of wood to slap across the windows. They don't all have to be perfect, in fact, it's better if they aren't. It makes it look hurried, which if there were a zombie invasion, wouldn't you be hurried? Take your boards, and hold them up over the windows, with your pieces of string beneath the boards. Once you have the board in the place that looks good, put your hand behind the board and hold your piece of string against the board with a finger. Flip the board, still keeping your spot with your finger, and staple the string onto the back of your board. Do this same process for the other side and each subsequent board. I suggest not to overdo it, the light shining through the boards makes it creepy. Slant some of the boards in the process of stapling them to the string. WHAALLAAH! Instant spook factor increased by 10!!!!!

When Halloween is done, simply remove the string from the hooks and store your window decorations for next year!!! Hope this was helpful and most of all
    have fun!!!

Love the idea. Some of my favorite props/decorations were also done because of a last minute inspiration.
So many ideas....Too little storage space

We have been talking about boarding up the windows of our home in order to make it appear abandoned. I work for a newspaper company and all our shipments come on these pallets so it should be pretty easy to get my hands on a couple. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the garage! Thanks for the how to!

I board up my windows using old fence boards, stain them w/ some oil and glue moss onto them. Put an arm hanging out connected to a wiper motor lol attach an old mask behind it w/ red led eyes stappled onto a shirt so it looks like a zombie is trying to break free and get you.
