need some advice viewed a thread on using foam for a backlighted sign need links or help used black for inside takes away the glow of the lights

Black absorbs too much light. You should go with something lighter that will reflect most of the light, like white. If white is too bright, use a color that is slightly lighter than your light bulb. Example would be if I was using a red light bulb, paint the inside red-orange or even pink. Also consider using a higher wattage light bulb if you can to get more light overall.

Mines lined with tinfoil and the insides of the letters are painted florescent pink.
