rub elmers glue all over them and let dry. It will look weird when wet but once it drys it will become a foggy haze, thats what I do and then splattered paint inside. ive even mixed green food coloring in the glue to give it a green haze.

Thanks I got that part and added coffee grounds and cinnamon but I can't make it hard it keeps shedding. What do you use on the outside to harden it up I wonder polyurenthane?

I did this last year and all I did was gently brush on slightly diluted pva glue (as it dries clear). I think pva may be like elmers.

I wonder if spraying them with a matt varnish from a distance, so it doesn't blast the grunge off might work too...I'm making some more this year so I think I might try that myself.

I usually hit glass jars with a mixture of brown and green paint. The secret is to use a fan brush with the acrylic paint and make sure that you have dobbed off almost all of the paint onto a paper towel before applying it to your jars.

After the paint has been applied, use a clean paper towel to dobb off any areas that you think look to heavily painted. I know it sounds incredibly easily, but it's a very effective technique.
