Hi All,
So, I'm doing a Zombie theme this year, and I thought it would be cool to create a Door that has a frosted pain, with zombie arms behind it. It could help section off areas that are off limits, as well as add to the whole effect. I got the idea from the photo below that I found on Terra's 7 Layers of Scare blog (Thanks Terra!!)
How would you go about doing this?
I was thinking about using Foam painted like wood for the door frame.
Then perhaps a white sheet pulled tight behind it. Or maybe plexiglass painted white? What do you think?
Also, and I'm really struggling with this one. How would you do the zombie arms behind it? Would you make those? If so how?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.![]()

Isn't that the coolest picture and effect?!
Your idea of using a sheet is great and should work very well. Also, to keep costs down, you could simply make hand/arm cut-outs from cardboard or poster board. Back-lit and done!
For a more realistic frosted glass look, check out the suspended ceiling section at Home Depot, they sell frosted plastic suspended ceiling panels. They are for the fluorescent fixtures above. They are about $5 and are 24" x 48". http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Ma...atalogId=10053

To add more 3D shadowing to the arms, you could attach some of that sheet fabric from the cardboard hand cut-out and pull down in the direction an arm would be.

Oh, that cracked ice or clear polystyrene looks perfect!! And reasonably inexpensive! Thanks!

And the cardboard arms/hand cutouts, so simple yet so spot on! Definitely need to cut back on costs.
Do you think I should have the "hands" kind of touching the "door" but have the "elbows/extensions" a few inches pulled back so that the shadow from the back lighting widens all the way down...like in the picture? Do you think that would work? Maybe take some cardboard to prop the arm out?_________

Yeah, looking at the picture I see that most of the arms are away from the window - except for one. I like that touch because it adds a bit of realism.
In regards to those ceiling panels, I couldn't find the frosted one at the site but I bet they have one.

I bet you could get away with a frosted shower curtain. Even just plain white to cast the arm shadows onto. Would be a super cheap prop with cardboard arms.
Dawn of the Dead DVD has a similar pic. with blood. I'll see if I can post it.
