I am looking for ideas on how to make a prop that, when triggered, makes a solid thump. It generally gets a good reaction when you thump your fist on the plywood divider between you and the guests walking through the passage way. I would like something that could be triggered and make a startling noise. Something like the drop picture might work, or something like a rat trap fastened to the wall.
My ideal gag would be something that I could reset with a tug on a string, and then trigger with a tug on a different string. Or perhaps some type of electrical trigger. The real trick is what to use to make the noise.
Initial thoughts are something like using a yard stick that is screwed down on one end, and pulling it back, then letting it snap against the surface that it is screwed to. Or maybe a 2x4 (hinged to the floor) with some bungee cord to smack it against the floor.
At first I thought...and then I though door knockers...LOL...not quite either.
I guess my question would be do you really need a physical device to make the sound? Wonder if an Mp3 player with a soundtrack for a loud booming thump might not work with a decent speaker hidden in the wall or behind something nearby. Trigger audio with a pressure mat or PIR maybe.
