I just spray painted mine flat black. But I'm guessing with an airbrush and brown paint I could add rust spots/areas to the chains. Wondering how spray painting them just brown/rust color would look.

They are different kits out there that you paint anything and make it have a rust batina, a lot of people stipple rust colored paint on the objects as well. Youtube rust paint affect and i'm sure you'll find something.

I may just paint it silver and then hit it with a little bit of brown.

I did a tutorial on painting large things to look like metal. Perhaps you could get a few ideas from it: Painting Faux Metal - Steampunk

You may want to try some of the specialty spray paints, such as hammered or multicolor textured finish. I've gotten some good results for rusty metal from RustOleum spray paints such as this one: RustOleum.com. I prime the object using flat black primer spray and then topcoat with the Autumn Brown textured spray paint, varying the amount of paint I apply (hitting some areas very lightly, laying it on heavier elsewhere).

For very little effort, you get a blend of colors and a roughened surface that approximates oxidizing metal.

It is finished. Finnaly. I bought a silvery spray paint and a rudy brown spray paint. I a layer of flat black, then I put on silver. After that I put on the ruddy brown indirectly so it looked rusty, not brown. I then put on black to make it look dirty and old. I'll have to upload some pictures. I think I'll make a xoffin for my next project (the goe toe pincher. The chains will either go on the coffin or on my door.
