Will it be a full size clown or one that is hidden behind a tombstone or sitting in a chair? If you had a wiper motor I would just say stick a rod into the control arm that goes back and forth and then attach some foam over the road to get bulk and put a clown hand on the end. I'm not sure about motors though since I've never used them.

Are you talking electrical? If you are using a basic chair then I would mount the motor to the arm of the chair. If it's a rocking chair then you have leveling to worry about and if there is too much weight on the arm as the chair rocks. Have you checked out monster guts site to see some of their motor controlers?

If I were you, I would check out Baird Manor's Leering Prop. That sould give you the basic idea.

I would suggest mounting the same style frame to the chair the clown will sit in and make the entire frame the clown's arm. Just cover the mechanics with the clown's costume.
If at first you don't suceed.... drink another beer!
