I converted the two story deck off the front of my house into a pirate ship last year and again this year. Check out the pics in my posts on both builds in the "Props" forum.
I used redwood bender board attached to the side deck supports and then out to an angled board that ran up to a main bow beam. I hung netting and "spooky fabric" between the bender boards.
I built a couple of cannon, a mast, ship's wheel and gang plank. I also ran rope from the deck and the mast out to the bow beam for "Rigging". The "Crew" is comprised of skeletons in pirate garb.
The entire scene is lit by a combination of colored spotlights, tiki torches and strobe lights. To finish off the effect I have a couple of fog machines and a pair of thunder & lightening machines....
There is lots of talent on this forum and everyone is very helpful......

I seen that on the internet it looked awesome. I was thinking of something in half that I could attach to the garage. By in half I mean cut down the middle (length)

So are you looking to build a display of the ship from the side then? If so, I would use old pallets bolted together and then attach bender board for siding. You you cut holes in the side for portholes and cannon ports. For the bow and stern sections you could stack a pallet on top at the front and back of your display and bolt it to the one underneath it. I would brace the whole thing with additional pallets set at a 90 degree angle to the side of the ship.
I think I have seen pics of pirate ship haunt on this board that are set up like the side of a ship......It sounds like a cool project!Thank ye matey, from the bottom of me scurvy heart......"One Eye'd" Mick
