I have an idea to use some sort of clear, see through fabric and hang a 6 foot piece from a tree in the front yard. I want to draw a ghost on it using some sort of UV paint or hairspray, etc, and then put a black spot light pointing at it. My hope is that I can come up with a ghost effect that glows with the UV, but has a see through effect by using some kind of transparent fabric. With the wind blowing, I'm hoping it will 'animate' the ghost.
Has anyone tried something like this? Can anyone recommend any type of fabric to do this? The fabric would need to probably be dark colored and not UV reactive.

I would recommend a trip to the fabric dept. at Walmart or any fabric store. Your best bet would be black or dark gray 'tulle." That is the netting type material used for bridal veils and things like that. It would be see through in the dark, or at least somewhat invisible.
You could do the ghost shape with glow in the dark hairspray or glow in the dark spraypaint. That would give a very whispy apparition effect too.

That should work perfect. I'll stop by the local Jo-Anns tonight. If they don't have what I'm looking for, I found some in Black on ebay for a really cheap price. I'll post pics if it works out. Thanks!

Anyone know if this works? Or have another idea for creating a "transparent ghost" effect outside like this?
Thanks for any insight!

The material might work ok , but , with spraqying either paint , or hairspray on it , its gonna stiffent it up somewhat and might not be as free flwoing as your want . Besides the hairspray might "rinse" off if left outside - due to either rain , or dew .
Nice idea though

paint on fabric –

I was thinking of doing something like that also. You could use cheesecloth, voile or organdy like fabric something see through and flowing. You can paint with acrylic paint and add something to paint to make it washable. It comes in a small bottle. I have used before when I was painting designs on doll shirts. You just add as you paint. I am sure they must still have it at Micheals and JoAnns.
