we have our technique for thunder and lightning, but need something for the rain effect. thanks for the ideas on here... We may just attempt them. Our problem is we need the effect to show OUTSIDE from the INSIDE, so we can't use real water....
How many days do I have left?

The tiki room one is correct which someone stated. The One in the haunted mansion is actually a projector that is projecting CGI rain onto a scrim. A scrim is a thin piece of fabric which you can see through. Behind the scrim is painted scenery and real tree props. They also use scrim for the fog in the graveyard in the Disney haunted mansion. They project images of fog on the scrim. The projector projects on the scrim practically parallel to it for this effect. They also use a projector on the scrim to make the flying ghosts. Now on the Winny the Poo ride They use lots of fishing line hanging from the ceiling which they have a rotating light like a disco ball hit them. The light hits the sting then drags down making it appear to be raining, a cheap and cool effect. Hope this helps.

I am brand spanking new to all this but I've always loved going to Disneyland and trying to figure out how all the special effects on the ride are done. One that never fails to impress me is what I call the fake rainy window. In the haunted mansion there is a window between the stretching room and the doom buggies that shows a never ending storm outside. In the tiki room there is a point in the show where a storm seems to erupt outside and then vanishes.

I have found a lot of tutorials on how to make thunder and lightning but nothing on the rain. If anyone has a link to a good tutorial or some tips they can post I would appreciate it.

I have been involved in construction off and on for a while so I know my way around tools and the Home Depot. If you start talking circuitry though you'll probably lose me.

    Thanks a million!

P.S. If anyone has a link to a detailed description of how the moving clouds are done on Pirates of the Caribbean I wouldn't turn it down. Thanks again.
A quick way to do rain for a window is to take 3 pieces of PVC and make a frame that looks like this |''''''''''''| at the bottom is a holding tank that runs between the frame and cathces the water droplets.
To get the water up the pieces of PVC you you simply use a small fish tank power head or water fountain pump, take a small hose and connect that to the top of the frame, seal off one end of the small hose and then poke some small holes in the tubeing presto, its raining, theres no mess on the ground and your water bill isnt eating you up not to mention what little bit of electricity a small pump uses you could run it for weeks for pennies on the dollar and you could wake up every morning to rain.
By doing it this way you donr have a water hose running all day long raising your water bill through the roof and you dont have a river outside of your house.
Building this shouldnt cost more than 40 bucks including the water fountain pump.
