Thanks! I have a very understanding wife who doesn't mind not parking her jeep in the garage. Next step is the back of the stage with 6 foot long crossed swords under the skull...

I found a bunch of 36" wheels on eBay for just over $50 and $30 to ship(no pun intended). 48" looks like the perfect size tho.. The project looks great!
How are you going to 'weather' it? Various stains or paint? I have a gazebo in the backyard that the roof planks have to be replaced so they are already weathered, but I'll have to rough up the railings..

I was going to do a light tempra weathering of the wheel. When the season is over it's going up on my office wall next to all of my pirate stuff and tall ship
models so I don't want it permanently altered.Evil Bob

Sounds good, I guess it cant be too weathered or else you'd get splinters off it when trying to steer or walk on the deck
here is the pirate deck/wheel pix I was looking for at Downtown Disney, a kind soul in LA went down to snap it for me...

Arrr, with his hands at 10 and 2, the way it says in the DMV helmsman manual!
Cool picture!
Weathering won't show up much because I'm going to be lighting the stage with colored lights.Evil Bob

Thats really lookin teriffic, I think i'm going to alter my build to look more like yours, just the aft end of the ship, my changes would be, place a mast and yardarm at the front of the lower deck(http://hearsefactory.com/piratestage18.JPG), using carpet tubes for mast and yardarms(lighter weight)...
with black sail(sheet) crows nest as in the POTC ride display(http://www.qsl.net/k7awa/BlackPearlMast.jpg), rat lines and rigging,
flying a Jolly Roger, and
..where you have the scrolled bulkhead and skull I will paint the Capt's cabin just aft of the wheel.. (http://hearsefactory.com/piratestage23.JPG)..
I'd love to do an entire short ship, as in the playground version of a pirate ship, but I think i'll do it in stages over a couple years..
I'm abt to jump over to eBay and get a 48" ships wheel, $99 coming from CT, and $45 to ship. I spotted a bunch of 36" wheels but they just wont seem big enough/realistic. Looking around eBay too for life size skeletons for crew/Capt'n..
I'm working the next 6 days so i'll have to begin when I get back Thursday afternoon. 'Suggested to the wife she could dress as voodoo witch in POTC2, oldest daughter wants to dress as Elizabeth Swan in ball gown.. suggested youngest daughter dress as AnnMarie(pirate) from POTC1
And me? Either Capt Jack, or Barbosa...
