I have been trying to figure out a way to make a possessed girl prop fly across the room... FAST. She is able to be hung from the ceiling. I am doing a Haunt this year (for the 1st year). And the 1st room is the excorsism room. When the lights go off and then suddenly come back on, I want her to bust out and spring at the haunters. I just can not figure out how to make that happen. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME??? I'm stuck. Oh yeah, I'm a beginner (girl)... So if all possible, Not too technical.

Welcome to the forum.
Some questions: How far does the prop need to travel? How tall is the room the prop is in? How heavy is the prop?Nostalgia isn't what it used to be...

Welcome,
Are you using an actor or a dummy as the flying girl? If you're using a dummy, make her lightweight, and have a track attached to the ceiling that she could run on. Use a track like what is used for sliding closet doors, and a wheel assembly (from closet doors too), have her hanging from the wheel assembly with fishing line, and use a bungee cord attached to the wheel assembly to pull her along. The only drawback is that you would have to reset the prop each time it was sprung. Where are you located? Perhaps I could help.

Hmm a high torque AC reversible motor using relays to reverse the polarity. Use micro switches at each end of the the track as a stopping point (like a garage door opener). Could be triggered when the "victim" enters the room and steps on a mat sensor to start the movement, lights, and audio track.
The real challenge is having the arms & legs move. The prop should come from behind some type of fabric at one end of the room on the outside of the room to "pop into the room" on the ceiling.
Then what does it do when it reaches the end of the track? Perhaps by then the victim has ran through the exit....
Just point to ponder.

John, so were you thinking of using threaded rod to move the prop? You would have to spin it awfully fast to get any speed out of the prop.

Not so much the threaded rod/worm drive, but rather just a continuous rated motor that can be run in both directions VIA relay switched connected to micro switches at either end of the track.
I left out how to connect the motor to the prop. Since I am just speculating I assume that the prop would be connected similar to an Axe Worthy ghost setup.
Your suggestion of sliding track W/ wheels is great.
Just tossing options out there. Budget is always a concern in these trying times.Scaring the crap out of people since 1993.

Pperhaps a combination off the two would work. The bungie cords are a little low-tech.
