I had a thought today about IR photo sensor props... and homemade varieties that could be adapted to a fun TOT laser tag style game. Sure it's a little Geeky, but it would be an interesting addition to 3d haunt or walkthru. Has anyone thought about making a IR laser tag "game" for TOTers in which they trigger effects!
I think it would be a cool concept for a haunt!

Any ideas?

I'd be worried about losing the guns. Maybe $10 to rent the gun, full refund on return.

Well I was thinking I'd make the guns with a laser pointer or IR LED, and a small toy squirt gun. making each "gun" about $2. It could also be made to look like a flash light. I could attach a lanyard bracelet thing to the gun so that they won't be dropped or lost, and can easily be returned.

The idea is there...just wouldn't know how to go about doing it. How would I make the IR sensing targets,the gun itself?! Lot of possibilities for a haunt though!

There are some knockoff lasertag toys out there that are pretty cheap, I bet you could hack the receiver to trigger effects fine enough (they usually light/sound anyway).

(I know it's $25 right now, but around Black Friday, I've seen the set for $10)

They also have various "spy gear" toys that use the laser tag concept.

I think the trouble would be in resetting the targets, as they are all programmed to take X hits and shut down/alarm. But, if you could manage that in between groups...

I think this sounds like a great idea! You could have a zombie hunt or have them shoot vampire bats or giant spiders.
