Thanks! I don't have a mast, because it would block the skull on the back of the ship. but I will have ratlines and belaying pins on the sides. I got a grey parachute material to represent the sail. I cut out crossed swords for the back of the ship tonight. I took the design from the jack rackham flag. http://hearsefactory.com/piratestage26.JPG It'll look more impressive once I paint everything. lol

    Thumbs up

Well, I did it, got a 48" wheel coming from CT, I should have dont it last night so it couldve been packed and shipped today, but I hope iyt can go out tomorrow... I am now off this week till Sunday(got pulled off my 4-day trip last night) so ship construction begins tomorrow(Tuesday)! hmm, now where did I leave my pirate ship plans...

I decided I'd like to find/use thick leg balisters(piano legs) for the railings around the back of the deck/wheelhouse. I figure the wheel deck will be canted, btwn 2'-3' off the ground, high enough to look like a ship, but low enough to see some detail.. I will have to put in a sound system(MP3 player and speakers) for "Pirate's Life For Me"

Bob, I looked around your website yesterday and I am reeeeeeally impressed! I LOVE the hearse and cemetary fence! The plans for the skeleton hands are awesome and I know I will be making the skeleton crew using your pvc plans. Da Band was the best! I would never have thot of the motion Santa from a skelton frame! And cannons! OMG!! We are in the presence of greatness

If this ship is a step up from what I saw in your backyard over the last couple years, then it's gonna win you a call from Spielberg or Lucas themselves

I've finished building the pirate ship stage and now have put two coats of the base color on it. Tomorrow I start dry brushing the plank details in.

Well, my construction began today.. using Halloweenguy's parade float photos(first page of thread), I built these guys:

    http://www.qsl.net/k7awa/cannon.jpg
    http://www.qsl.net/k7awa/cannon2.jpg

The first one is nearly finished, just needs stain for the rack, pull rope and fuse. Second one needs stain and three more bands wrapped on. I've gone thru 9 rolls of masking, painters and electrical tape to make the bands around the barrels, anyone have an easier way? Also, anyone know how I can make the tubes look like a pocked-marked surface barrel(real cannon)? Was thinking plaster around the tube, then paint but not sure.. right now they're painted flat black..

tomorrow begins framing the deck, wheel house and railings, and acquiring carpet tubes for the mast. I have 2" PVC for the booms, a trip to the surplus place will get parachute material for the sail, rope for the rat lines and I have a Jolly Roger flag coming off eBay. A small crows nest will be manned by a ghost... 48"ships wheel should go out tomorrow UPS from CT, so hoping mon/tues or so it oughta be here..

I've been looking at EvilBob's Airzooka cannons and may go with that for the ships side-firing cannons.. 2 or 3 on the short-sided ship. an MP3 player playing "A Pirates Life For Me" and some talking from the POTC ride will round out the audio.. A treasure chest next to the ship will be where the booty(candy) is distributed from, and some rum bottles will be scattered here and there..

EB, looks really good, can hardly wait to see it lit..
