UPDATE: I just saw this morning that a 3rd party on Amazon has the AtmosFEARfx "Night Stalkers" DVD for $16.93 shipped. Backordered until Oct 15 but I'll have it in time for Halloween at least!

Projecting onto the orange surface of a pumpkin, it is nowhere near bright enough to sell the effect. It does better on a translucent shower curtain. It might work for general use as a window projection, as long as it is viewed from far enough away, like from the sidewalk. For a display that gets close-up inspection, you will want a higher resolution projector.

I ended up returning it. Some digging on eBay shows you can get projectors with much better brightness and resolution for comparable prices, though you forgo the screen material and the preloaded scenes. Since I already own most of the scenes I want, the scenes are a waste of money for me. Likewise the projection material, since the windows in my house are going to require a custom fit piece of screen. I expect I will be deciding on and purchasing something off eBay in the next day or so.

Bottom line, it's a good deal for getting a start in projecting, but if your needs are at all demanding, spend the time and effort (and only a little extra money) on collecting a custom equivalent.
Now that I had some time to try out my HD projector kit, I noticed the same issues. The biggest issue that jumped out at me was that you can't get the entire display to focus clearly together, even if you center the projector. If you have the middle focused, then the sides, top and bottom are blurry and so on. Glad I got it as my first projector kit to learn on though. Plus, the SD card is a nice bonus that I can use with other projectors. I especially like the included Christmas, New Years, and fireworks movie clips. I like how AtmosFX gives you a snippet of some of their collections.

On that note, I tried the SD card with the other projector I got from Amazon, the FastFox for $40. The FastFox pixels appear large and really stand out but the entire screen focuses very clear, even at distances over 10 ft away, much better than the HD projector. I will be using both to project onto my 2nd floor windows so the high resolution won't be necessary anyway. By the way, I am using Joann Fabrics platinum chiffon for the screen (per a youtube video review of screens, unable to remember the Youtube channel) and it works great.

Do you remember how large the files were after you converted them to mp4? I'm just wondering how large of an SD card or USB drive I will need. I'll be converting the Bones DVD and Night Stalkers. Thanks!

Once converted to mp4, the resulting files are typically fairly small, around 30-50mb for a 3-4 min file. Most SD cards are at least 1GB (1000mb) so you'll have no problems whatsoever.

Note: if you convert to mp4, the resulting file end as a m4v. Simply rename the extension from "m4v" to "mp4" and you'll have no problems playing it

I have a video of the animation this FX machine gives. Since this was my first purchase and considering I projected it on my garage door (so huge) it did absolutely great for any beginner - plus my visitors stated over and over again "that is awesome". I guess, from a newbie, as long as my visitors are freaked out then I have done my job! I had one little girl refuse to go trick or treating and stood watching it for an hour + right smack dab in front. But I do guarantee that the more experienced I get the better and more expensive products will be required as I will notice myself the lack of quality from the cheaper passable ones I have now!

Only complaint from a beginner was the stand!

Just fyi, I stopped by my local Home Depot tonight and the projector is now $48 which makes a good deal a great deal for people starting out into projection displays. Get 'em while they last!

FYI... even better. Today 12/22, it's on clearance at least at my store for 34.50. After trying it out just now, I'm going back for a spare. My store had plenty of them. I'm not sure the general public knows what to do with them.

I believe they have a 14 day price adjustment period which you might qualify for but ends today if I counted correctly from the 22nd. Do you still have your receipt? Could save yourself 34.50 if you still fall under the period.
