My two highschool teenagers decided since the house is decorated for Halloween that our house should be the place for a Homecoming After Party - THIS WEEKEND! There will be about 20-40 highschoolers from 11:30pm - 3:30am. This is an alcohol free get together --they have a large Halloween party every year and we've not run into a problem of keeping them busy and having fun but we've always had loud music, dancing, costumes.....and they could go outside. Due to the late hours of this party I am limited on the load music and keeping the kids contained inside. Any ideas of what else we can have going on?

If it has to be inside, I guess have lots of games (Twister, Stacking Cups [the red Solo cups are good for this], Ping Pong Ball toss [into cups that are line up like bowling pins are, and getting one in the center one wins]), food & movies.

Since they have to be inside with the noise down, I would maybe focus on some ways to have multiple things going on so the kids can choose what they want to do.
For example, maybe pick up a bunch of cheesy scary movies, some old creature features that won't get you in trouble with the other parents and the kids might think are fun to watch together.
Not everyone will want to watch the movies, so you can have playing cards, board games, etc set up in a different area for some of the other kids.
Most of the kids will find ways to entertain themselves, so I wouldn't worry about things too much. It's hard when the noise level has to be down, and they've already spent the night dancing.
I think the most important thing will be snacks.

Yeah, lots of food for them!

Do the Tempt Your Fate. They will probably love it.

Put together a huge box of old costumes, masks, props, etc. You could even have them each bring something for this treasure trunk. Then divide them into small groups and give them a time limit to create a scary scene and or costume. Give prizes.

DO you have a karoake machine? This site has some fun ideas. Many can be modified and bumped up in age. I have used lots of things from here in the past.
I think karoake with the Halloween carols would be fun.

There are also some carols in a thread on here too. Some of the members have even written some.

Also we have fun with karoake and some of the Halloween theme songs or just spooky songs. This site has the lyrics to many of the old classics. I picked up a CD that had many of these on it recently.

Give prizes for the best or worst singers. It is a riot!

Also make them dance to songs like Monster Mash, Thriller.

This sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks for the last minute help! The party was a big success. We had about 45 kids and I did end up letting them outside. I spoke to my neighbors and asked them if I kept the music under control if they would mind if I let them be outside until 1:30 and they gave me the go ahead. I used caution tape to close in the backyard so they wouldn't be roaming our neighborhood and set up the firepit with a s'more bar outback. Many of the kids wanted to swim in the pool of blood but chickened out because it was too cold. When they were ready to wind down after a night of dancing at homecoming they all came inside and watched Drag Me to Hell I have to say -- while I thought it was really hoakie -- they were screaming their heads off and covering their eyes. It was the perfect movie for high schoolers without being rated 'R'
