I've had a Halloween party for the last 5 years and they have all been adult themed (alcohol) however, this year is the first year we are allowing kids WITH THEIR PARENTS PRESENT. I've never really had games in mind when planning the party, thinking it was a little immature. But after reading other post I see that people of all ages have games planned for their guest.
My questions are:
what are good games for adults and kids (together or separate)
How do you go about getting a game started. I don't want people to think I'm being bossy or childish.
Do you give out gifts to the 'winners'.
Any help is appreciated.

Well there's the Tempt Fate game that i'm doing and a few other people. I guess depending on how old the kids are coming you could do this as well but tone it WAY down so that the fates are things that kids or adults can do.
Or do fate cards for kids and different ones for adults in 2 separate areas.
Or fate cards only for adults and have spooky games for the kids. When i was younger our aunts would have a halloween party and all the cousins (when we were kids) would go and the parents would be able to mingle amoung adults and they'd spooky up the basement and set us down with scary movies and the board game atmosphere. That hooked us right in.
I give out prizes for mine. I'm making a You Tempted Fate trophy from a styrofoam ball and round bases found at the $1 store and some silver spray paint for the person that collects the most fate cards. I also have a gift certificate for them and there are like 3 of my fates that say you've won a prize and i have little gift cards and cool light up glasses as prizes for that.
If you build up your game, like put something about it on the invite or tell people or make the area around it spooky and such people will go play it on their own. My guests all did.
I kept building up "tempting fate" when talking to people on Facebook or randomly over the phone LOL so they were all like "what the heck?" and were all pumped to see what it was about so i didnt have to push anyone to do it. I hope that helps
Here's the thread about the tempting fate game

most older kids have seen "minute to win it" and if not, the games are very easy to catch on to. I would try the "minute to lose it" version on the forum.. You can also google it and see all of the games on the show. What about bobbing for donuts (donuts are hanging on rope and they try to eat them off without their hands)
Don't worry about sounding "bossy" Just yell out that you are playing a game and whomever wants to play, can play. I find that if you aren't pushing the people that don't like games, everyone has fun either watching or playing. If you do a search on the forum you will find lots of games.
Scavenger hunts are always a hit, trivia. games if they are older...

Ok, so this is not a Halloween game BUT, we just bought Just Dance for the Wii and it makes a great game for kids of all ages. We had a couple of friends over last weekend and the game got turned on and the adults were all cracking up playing and watching each other. It will be on for our party this year , I can see it getting funnier as the night goes on and people start drinking...
BTW, we will be having adults and their children at our party, this is our first official, we decorated the house last year and had a few friends over to trick or treat and the next thing we knew we had a house full of people as they stopped at our house to get treats and came on in !!! : )
