    Hey guys,
I'm throwing my first big Halloween party this year and I'm having problems coming up with ideas to decorate my house. I have a graveyard for my front yard, a few spiders I made out of balloons and construction paper, and then the basics like spiders webs and stuff.
My walls are really bare and my house is not spooky. So, if anyone knows any good ideas to make my house look creepy I'm all ears! There's going to be around 30-40 people at my house this year and would really like it to be a memorable party.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum Lyssa!

Read, read, read. There is a TON of great ideas on here.

Remember that the memories come more from your crowd, so don't stress too much about having a ton of decorations. It takes time to build up all that stuff!

The biggest bang for your buck is lighting. Colored bulbs go a long way in changing the mood. Don't get the blacklight bulbs though, they are just too dark. Red is probably my favorite. Blue is good for areas you want a little brighter. Change out every bulb you can. Hang creeepy cloth (cheesecloth dyed black) over windows, furniture, lamp shades, and tables. Scene Scetters has some great items to tack up on your walls.

    Good luck with your party!

    Jackie

Do you have a Dollar Tree or 99Cents Only store near you? They have wall coverings (like large plastic light weight table cloths) that make the walls look like a dungeon, a grave yard, pumpkin patch etc... I think I have even seen them @ Kmart (looks like a bloody butcher shoppe). For a few bucks you can cover the whole wall. I second the motion on the Creepy Cloth, they have that at the dollar stores too. After that think about the lighting and some colored bulbs. Inexpensive things that can have a big effect... just my two cents worth

Like Heather said, definitely hit up the Dollar Tree for some inexpensive decor! If you're front yard is a graveyard, you could do your house up in a Mausoleum style with skeletons, stone/brick walls, spiders, bats, etc. Make sure you have your lighting set - exactly like Jackie says. Reds,Greens, and Blues work the best. Decide what music you want to play - scene setting Halloween music, party music, etc.

Yes i agree with everyon else .. go to the $1 store and get lots of "creepy cloth" they have some at the halloween stores but they can be anywhere from $9-$15 ... i also found a lot at some thrift stores that purchased things from the halloween stores on sale after halloween last year and are selling it for next to nothing this year brand new

Creepy cloth .. spider webs and black and orange lights ... if you have those 3 things that will make a WORLD of difference with really easy set up.

Otherwise have a look on here and you'll get TONS of ideas

Thanks guys! That's really helpful. I never thought of using any lights other than black and orange. I bought an orange lightbulb and put it in my kitchen, but I didn't like it much. I'll have to try the blue, green, and red ones.
Also, the creepy cloth idea is great! Thank you all for such quick replies
