Hi all...The hubs and I are debating on how to set up our music. We want to play the haunted Mansion "library" song for the upstairs den/media room (and we'll have cheap $ books hung from fishing line from the ceiling)...
then for the main hall downstairs we're not sure what kind of music to be played...sound effects or more "Welcome to the haunted Mansion" type? In the pub/xtra living room it's going to be general Halloween sound effect-y type music...then in the main living room adjacent to the kitchen I guess we'll use the normal Halloween party music??
We also want to hide CD players in the closets of the spare room where people will be sleeping...we are working on spreading rumors about the hubs and I experiencing paranormal activity in the house...so that the peeps who stay over will have it in their subconscious and be scared..mwa-ha-ha!!
so - my question is...is everyone playing different types of music in each area?? If so..what types?? Any recommendations as to hwo we can coordinate our music and the best places for the "party" music???

For each different theme I have in my party/haunt, I have different music. For example, last year I was playing Party music in my living room/kitchen (it's one big stretch). In our hallway leading to the bathroom we had creaking/screams/etc, and in the bathroom we had the sounds of spiders and bugs (the bathroom was a big spider den). It worked out well. Just don't turn the music or audio up too loud in one area that it overbears on other areas around it and you should be fine!

We'll probably just set up party music outside on the back porch this year - even though we theme every year, the back porch is sort of the "no-spin" zone where the decorations are more general Halloween and provide the congregate/socialize area. We do murder mysteries, so folks are in character and that's sort of become the de facto OOC area.
In the past, in addition to the party music on the back porch, we've set up music in various parts of the house that matched the feel of the room/area. We just recorded CDs with the music/soundtrack and then looped them to play. We did a pirate theme one year and that probably used the most variety of music/sounds - we had a shipwreck at the entrance and played ocean/wind/bell sounds; down one of our halls, we built a cell with a pirate skeleton prisoner and put together a voicetrack of him singing songs, telling jokes and stories, and making random comments; in the main area of the house, we had tavern type music playing (all instrumental); and out on the back porch, we had pirate, drinking, sea shanty songs going.
If you can have everything looping, or on a timer - that is a definite plus. Our first year, we were running around, restarting all of the players. lol Now they probably have some sort of wireless speaker set ups that you could run through your computer and then just set everything off the computer - we're not that high tech, though.
