I have been trying to get our town to tell me which night will be TOT for days. I have the invites for my Boo Bash all ready and I went with the Friday night assuming that TOT would be Saturday because it always is moved when the 31st is on a Sunday.

I have called the police department, City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce, the Main Street Association and the local newspaper. No one wants to make the call. They are all saying they don't have the authority to say since there is no city policy. Well, someone makes this decision every time. I just want to know before I send out the invites that have to get in the mail.

I have a friend who is on the City Council and he says they don't have the okay to decide. He has talked to the mayor (also a friend). I am going to see about having Paul change my date to the Saturday and be done with it.

My party will be much better on a Saturday and I know that. However, we usually have over a hundred TOTers and I hate to have a party going on with all that activity. Also, I will have more stuff out in the front yard for the party and don't want to have to worry about someone carrying it off while we are in the back. It is enough to almost make me want to post a not TOTer sign due to city crap!

You would think that could get together. All the local churches are doing their carnivals, festivals and trunk or treats on the Saturday night.

ummmmm.... do these city officials need calendars? Halloween is on the 31st.

My city has many similarities to Germany in the 30's and 40's (We even became the 1st city to make smoking illegal in public and inside apartment buildings)

But even my city doesn't set dates and time for toting

What happens if children come on Sunday... do they arrest them? ticket them? rough them up a bit?

We have actually had some kids on both nights. They usually announce this in the local paper and on the local news, but not everyone sees it.

We have two decent size towns that are side by side (one ends and the other begins). There have been years where one town TOTed on Saturday and the other on Sunday! There are also lots of little towns all around us (just a few miles and all are rather close knit) When Halloween is on a Friday that causes more turmoil. The towns all decide when TOTing will be based on if the football game is a home game or not. So, that means that it is all over with the area towns. It is crazy!

Funny, I've never thought of an actual "observance" day. I don't remember switching it when we were kids - Halloween was the day it was, we all wore our costumes to school and then went out TOTing after dinner, before bed. Guess times change though...
