I seem to be faced with a party dilemma this year. Every year there is a Halloween street festival near downtown Dallas and I was really wanting to go since I missed it last year. Only thing is, I found out it's on saturday the 30th - that's when I wanted to have my party.
Usually this festival is the weekend before Halloween, so I thought there wouldn't be a conflict.
So...the long and short of it....should I have my party the saturday before, the 23rd?....or should I try a Friday party, on the 29th? I've never had a friday night party. Anyone have a good turn out on a friday night?
or should I just say, to hell with it, and have my party when I originally wanted to!

I had a Friday party and it was too chaotic - I couldn't get done everything I wanted, and people were later because they had to get home from work and then get dressed. Since I switched to Saturdays and I can sleep in (in theory anyways), and people have more time to get dressed, people stay come earlier, stay later, and have way better costumes. There are a bunch more conflicts though, and that kinda sucks
Sat the 23 is only 3 weeks away! Where did time go?!?!

I had my party on a Friday the first year & it was way too stressful for me. I had to work that day, then come home & prepare. Now I always have it on a Saturday & I even take the Friday before off work.

Friday night party for me last year... it was great...er, not so much. I only wish it was great.
I agree with what's said above. Even if you don't work that day, most of your guests will have and not only will you be frantic, but your guest may be too. They also may be tired, or may not even show up because they are too tired.
If it's a super young crowd, you can probably get away with a Friday party and still have a bunch of guests show up, but us old folks (I turn 30 in Nov) get tired and it may be a lot.
I had 39 people RSVP for last year's Friday night party and only 19 showed. So, I may be a tad jadded.

Have it on October 23rd. It's still early enough for you to send the invite for it. I had a party once on a Friday and people were complaining that they had to get home from work and rush to the party. If it's on a Saturday, they have the whole day to relax and then go to your party.

Do the party the weekend before.
I will never, never, NEVER have it the same weekend as Halloween or any other event that I want to go to again. It was stressful, crazy and made Halloween feel rushed and kind of sucked.
The parties I've had the weekend before go smoothly, I have lots of time to tweak stuff for the big day based off of what failed on party night, and it makes the holiday seem much longer and you have more time to enjoy everything.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Well, I don't work on Fridays, but I know most people do and it can be tough to do things after work when you're drained. Especially when you have small kids like most of my friends do. Plus, quite a few live pretty far away from me, so there's a the drive time too.
I'm leaning more towards the weekend before now. Altho, I know that means that will exclude some friends of mine who I know already have plans.

definitely the Saturday before. That has always worked best for me. Plus, guests may have another invite for the weekend of Halloween, so there is no conflict!
