I've decided this years theme is going to be Ghosts, but am having a total mind block on the invitation. I've seen some really cool invitations on here & am hoping someone will give me some inspiration. I was thinking along the lines of traditional black & white with some kind of ghost poem/pic????? Was going to do a small plastic skeleton holding a tombstone with the party info on it, but doesn't seem to ghosty to me???? Thanks!

I, too, am hosting a Ghost themed party this year. One invitation idea is to take a white handkerchief, write the invite around the perimeter, drape the handkerchief over a lollipop, and draw eyes with black marker.

My roadblock is with the verbiage for the invitation.

    Any ideas out there???

Yesterday I put on my ghost costume, stood on the front stoop and had my husband take a picture of me with the house in the background. I'm having a friend change do some work on it, washing out the color so it's almost black and white and slightly blurry. Hopefully I'll be able to post the final product.

Have you thought of using old spook show posters as a design template? Just Google 'spook shows' and look at the images.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the subject of this thread was something like the Martha Stewart pumpkin invites where you pull out the top... you could use a tombstone instead of the body of the pumpkin, and instead of pulling the top of the pumpkin out, it could be a white ghost with invite details.

These are the invites I'm referring to:

No creativity for the actual invitation but wanted to share this poem, I often think of it during Halloween and have used parts of it for my invites before:
DO NOT WHISPER TO THE WIND
    BY RAYNE AVALOTUS

Do not whisper to the wind,
For wind winds far and deep,
Deep down into the shadow land
    Where evil creatures sleep.
The echo of thy uttered word
Can wake them, make them creep!

Do not whisper to the wind,
    For seething monsters hear;
    The winds will carry monologues
    To meet their careful ears,
And they will rise up from their tombs
To plague the world with fear.

Do not whisper to the wind
    For demons know, they say,
Where rests thy sleepy, pretty head
    When darkness swallows day,
And in the night they’ll come on thee
    And steal thy soul away!

Do not whisper to the wind,
    For evil’s waiting there
With anxious claws and open ears
    Just listening to the air.
And waiting for a foolish child
    To whisper unaware.

Do not whisper to the wind,
    For beasts come leather skinned
With eyes aglow in sickly hue
    And figures tall and thinned.
Thou may not, shall not, cannot
    Ever whisper to the wind!
    My kitty hates christmas....

Do something in the line of inviting your guests on a "Ghost Hunt" like the tv show.
Could write up a back story history of the house being haunted. Some recent activity has stirred them up & you need your guests help to deal with the spirits. If your good at electronics, can make a simple faux ghost hunter device that blinks.
