This year we are doing Heroes and Villains and I have decided to be Cruella De vil.
When I have told people the theme SOOO many have brought her name up first. Yes I thought of it, however I thought of a lot of costumes and went back and forth before finally deciding, (it also works well being in Wisconsin and it is a indoor/outdoor party) First time I was kinda shocked, now I just smile and nod.
Years ago when we first stared our party and it was smaller 20 - 30 my Husband and I were the Monster and Bride, I know, not original, anyway, two sets of Aunts and Uncles came as Monster and Bride, my Husband thought I was going to be upset, What can you do but Laugh?? Pretty Cool how each costume was different!

How do you respond when someone wants to be 'your' costume? –

Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

You could either tell them immediately that you are going as Cruella after you tell them about the theme, or if you do invitations, write the invitations to read "Cruella De Vil and (insert husband here) invite you to their Heroes and Villains Halloween Party on ..." That way you lay claim to the costume and everyone knows it.

I wouldn't worry about it. Take a "group pic" of all the CDV's!!

We did a group shot of the Franks and Brides. Love that picture!!!
Can't lay claim on the invite, dosn't work with the wording and a lot of people like to keep costumes a secret until the night (although quite a few already know mine). If it happens that is o.k I think my costume will be the best - it better be!!
How do others feel when this happens to them?Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

I'd let it go and just be glad that people are getting into the spirit of things. Could be worse, they could come in regular clothes and no costume. You could be Cruella de Vil at one point in time, if the other person looks older/younger.

I usually tell people right away what I'm going to be to avoid that, otherwise just embrace it. Last year there were 7 "Alices" in our Wonderland party, and EVERY ONE WAS DIFFERENT! It kind of rocked. There were also 3 dutchesses - again, all totally different.
