To try to keep cleanup easier I put a trash bin right next to the cooler or party bucket. It has a label with "Bottles and cans" written in LARGE letters. (we recycle) I have another trash bin nearby clearly marked "trash" I use only glass dishes and glassware so there is less trash. That may not work for everyone but I have an older crowd so it works for us.
Good luck!

I try to clean up as much of the food and drink containers as I can before I go to bed (depending on my level of sobriety). Last year I had LOTS of fun and went straight to bed. I woke up in the morning to find that some wonderfully thoughtful people had decided to help me start cleaning up the food. Most of the dishes were stacked and the non-salvagable left-overs were thrown out. But someone was trying to be helpful with the Snotcho cheese mess and put my entire croc pot in the sink to soak. LOL! I guess they didn't realize that the croc comes out of the electrical base. But, amazingly nothing was damaged. So, no harm done.

We do a lot of decorating with cheapo plastic paint tarps from Dollar Tree and they're wonderful, because I don't mind all just tossing them at the end of the night. (I'm pretty sure they're even recyclable) And then we have labelled plastic storage containers for everything else. We usually have the drunk over-nighters help put things away. And we all nurse our hang-overs with junk food and laugh about what went on the night before. Sometimes clean up can be kinda fun.
Oh and I always take the Monday after off work. Even if the clean up is all done. I need a day of NOTHING.

I try to do a little "clean as you go" during our party but who wants to waste good party time with cleaning? Usually I get up in the morning and look around and say OMG it looks like 50 people had a party here last night

Last year I had a luncheon meeting on the following day. My last group left in the wee hours of the morning. I finally went to be at 5:30 a.m. and a group of relatives were still playing cards on the screened porch. I got up and stumbled to my luncheon---had to go since it was hosted at my workplace and arranged by me. I wil NEVER make that mistake again. We sort of clean up as we go along. Luckily, when I got home, they had restored the house. So, maybe it was okay. I still spend days taking down all the decor.

I have cleaned up after many a party at my house - HAlloween and otherwise - and all I know is first I require an aspirin....threre is nothing WORSE than bending over repeatedly with a throbbing hangover!!
I am bad - I usually hit the bed and leave everything as is. It's funny the next morning, the place looks like a party store exploded on my lawn, or in my house, or both! LOL And it takes me most the morning the clean it up. then I go right back to bed! LOL"Why are you dressed like someone died?"
"Wait."
