hey guys! after reading through all these great threads. My kids and I were discussing our 3rd annual halloween party. I LOVED the idea of love never dies. Since my kids are getting older, they aren't as into the kiddish games and stuff anymore. So we decided to have a dance of the dead! Were also going to have our scare trail, as we live on 40 acres of woods, and the kids love it every year.
I was curious as to what you guys would do? I want to set up a photo spot so we can do "prom pictures" any ideas on what I should set it up like?
Im also going to have a ballot box to have them cast their votes for "queen and king". and also a costume contest.
I think i am going to use small trees cut into poles and set up a square. String lights from pole to pole. for the dance area, and have a table set up for food and drink. We usually have a small bonfire with hot dogs and marshmellows to roast.
I would love any input you guys have since we are just in the planning stages right now!
thanks for sharing this site is awesome!

Hello fellow Arkansan!! I did the photo shoot last year, hired a photographer to come in. It was REALLY great. We just used a plain white back drop (his screen) and I painted a plant stand (concrete roman column) black and put a black vase with black roses arranged in it. Just a small something, so as not to distract from the people in the pick.
How old are your kiddos? I have 2 boys, 15 and 12 - this year would be our 6th annual, but they told me they didn't want to do it.

What a fun idea! If it were my party, I think I'd look through some prom-y type pictures and set it all up like a regular prom, but with black and/or orange balloons instead of colourful ones, "blood" punch instead of regular punch etc. I love the idea of the photo thing, and the crowns for king and queen could be made from bones or something equally spooky.
Your "DJ" (could be just a few burned CDs) could play eerie techno music or classic Halloween faves, and I think you just HAVE to have prizes for the most ghoulish dead attendee etc.
Can't wait to see how it turns out!

BevAnn: Don't believe them!! My 21 yo used to say that too, and now says that the Halloween parties were the coolest things ever. And that she's glad I was/am the Halloween Mom.
JUSTTINK: all your ideas sound great!! Definitely set up a photo shoot area, I'm thinking an archway of orange and black balloons and a fabric backdrop just like at the prom. Shindigz carries all sorts of backdrop paper and fabric that is reasonably priced. I've always been pleased with their service and their products. I have quite a few CD's with halloween music, and would be glad to burn you some and send them to you, if you like. And welcome to the forum!!!
mysterymaiden: I think you hit the nail right on the head!!

I have a punch that we used to use at proms. The home ec teachers always called it Baptist champaign. It is clear and could be colored. It make a lot since you mix it up and then add and dilute proportionately as needed.

Awesome theme!
I love the black, red and white color scheme for the balloons! (makes sense that I like them since they are going to be my wedding colors in 2 yrs)
Just some thoughts of food... Chocolate covered strawberries..... to me that completely says prom and dark romance at the same time.
