I am being Cruella De vil this year. I am putting my costume together instead of buying a done costume. I keep looking at pictures to make sure I am true to the character, that is Black Dress, White Long 'fur' coat, Red shoes and gloves, and of course the half white half black wig. Then I will find for sale Disney branded costumes....red dress, white coat with dalmation spots, boa instead of coat etc. I guess I should not care less and do what I think is right, but what the heck, a company owns the rights but still does not do the costume 'legit'???

Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

I just did an image search on google and there are a lot of weird variations of this costume. I think there's a few reasons you're seeing this though; for one the costume companies are probably not linked directly to Disney and only have their own designers to make the costume. Even if it is Disney doing the designing I'm not surprised, you'll find a lot of changes made in their characters appearances. I've seen a lot of Disney Princess stuff in the past XP and they don't always look how I remember them, in fact it's like they're trying to amp up the big glittery princess look (they even wear necklaces that symbolize their story, what's up with that?). I say stick with what you're doing, you're actually going to look like her and not a costume company's interpretation of her.

Also, the live action "Dalmatian" films with Glenn Close had MANY different red/white/black costumes, whereas the animated film just had the one...

Well, both are legit! Disney just chose to go with the Cruella De Vil from the live action remake instead of their animated feature. I guess Disney thought the Glenn Close version was more current and better resembled the meet-n-great park character's outfit.
