This year we have chosen a murder mystery for our party. This is our first time to do this so I am very excited! We are going to do a vampire theme. I think I've decided on one from dinnerandamurder.com. I'm open to any ideas and suggestions anyone has!
I think you'll be very happy with dinnerandamurder.com - we've done several of their mysteries (Murder at the Four Deuces 1 & 2, The Santa Clause) and I really like the format of the mysteries (interactive over scripted), as well as the writing of the story and characters. Her mysteries are very engaging and easy, so that even people who are avowed introverts always end up thoroughly throwing themselves into their roles. The mysteries are also very easy to run with everything well laid out for the host. I think the only change we made was that we hid weapon cards throughout the house and in order for folks to commit murders, they had to first find a card. We also ran out of additional characters for the Murder @ the Four Deuces, so created house employee roles - poker dealer, ladies of the night - and gave them house secrets that they could sell to people (e.g. where a murder weapon could be found). That gave these characters a little more involvement and "specialness".
You said you're doing a vampire theme, so are you by any chance going with the Immortals murder mystery? If so, you'll have to let me know how that goes - I actually purchased it a few years ago, but haven't ever gotten around to using it. We went with a western themed last year from nightofmystery.com (another very good site!), and this year we are doing a zombie themed mystery from mymysteryparty.com.
What sort of ideas are you looking for? Decorations, food? Your activity is taken care of - I can pretty much well guarantee that you don't need to work in any additional activities
Yep, we are thinking the immortals! It looks like a lot of fun! I'll be sure and let you know how it is. Thanks so much for the information!
We will be doing ours outside so the decorating is going to be a lot of fun! We llive in the middle of the woods so I utilize the trees as much as possible! We have a little clearing on the edge of the woods near our house, that's where we will have the main party. I'll mark the area with clear Christmas lights (which I've already started putting up!). Then we will have tombstones scattered with some bloody bones stashed here and there. Probably a campfire with a cauldron and a witch or two! Lots of ghosts and a body hanging from the tree with a hangmans noose. I have a lot of random decorations so I shouldn't have to worry too much about decorating.
We always have a hot dog roast as part of our party however I'd like to add in themed food also. I could use some suggestions for easy food that would go with a hotdog roast!
