We finally settled on our Halloween party and are going to do another interactive murder mystery. It is a zombie themed mystery from www.mymysteryparty.com where zombies have negotiated a peace treaty with the U.S. Government and learned to control their hankering for human flesh with pumpkins. We've wanted to do a zombie theme for a few years, and this just seems to be the right mix of macabre and silly that really appeals to us.
The setting is a local festival (the "Undead Festival") at the Town Hall. Apparently folks are starting to get a little wired from not eating human flesh and the mayor is throwing the festival to get everyone's minds off of their "troubles". For some reason, the whole thing screams Pleasantville to me. We're just starting to talk decorations - one idea is lots of carved pumpkins that have been half "eaten". We might just go with a lot of orange and black party type decorations - crepe paper, banners, balloons, etc. And of course, the pumpkins. If we do that, there would also be zombie-specific twists on the usual human elements - change the normal restroom signs to something zombie related, maybe a posting board....
We're thinking a video invite - some sort of 1950's parody and we're tossing around some commercial/promo ideas (support your local pumpkin growers or a zombie outreach promo are two of the ideas). We've been watching a lot of Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, and vintage commercial clips lol
Food should ideally be pumpkin themed. I'll have to really think on this, because it fits so well but I don't want to overwhelm. I have a great pumpkin roll recipe and that's about it. The drinks will be a lot of fun because I do have some great punch recipes that are green and sludgy (with the floating Jello-O).
That's where I am so far - just sort of the beginning of all my musingsPlease help! lol I'd really appreciate thoughts and ideas - this group is so awesomely creative, so I look forward to hearing from the forum!! Also, if anyone has happened to purchase a murder mystery from mymysteryparty.com and wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts, that would be great. We've used other sites, but this will be the first time for this vendor.

Sounds really cool. I'm doing a zombie themed party but w/o the pumpkins & a lot of gore/blood instead, lol. Taste of Home has some really neat recipes, lots of pumpkin themed ones. My favorite is the pumpkin pie dip (I get requests for it) and I serve it with cinnamon sticks. They have a great website if you wanna check it out.

Sounds great! We decided on a murder mystery this year also! It will be a first for us so I'm super excited!
My idea for yours is to serve stew using small pumpkins as bowls. I know I've seen recipes for this but can't think of where right off the top of my head. I'm sure a search will get you several. :-)
