So I saw some of my avid Halloween party goers yesterday... one being my best friend and the other who is a good friend and has never missed one of my parties.
My party came up and I mentioned that I am doing a circus theme and they both just got this look of terror on their faces and were like ' you're not going to do clowns are you!?"
They were both completely disgusted by the idea.
I was like ' they're going to be foam!' and they said that they would leave or wouldn't come if there were a lot of clowns.
I said I didn't have any clowns. ( which is true... I'm a second generation halloween nut and my Aunt has tons of clown stuff that I'm using so technically... I don't have any at the moment.. hehe)
I was just wondering if I should even take what they said into consideration... my best friend even mentioned how much IT scared her and I planned to have that going on the tv.
Note: I had not planned to do anything clown related in the backyard which has lots of sitting room and a nice pool and patio so its not like they wouldn't be able to get away from it.
What do you guys think?

these are "avid Halloween party goers"?
i say do what you were planning to do and don't worry about what they said. part of attending a halloween party is to be up for blood and scary stuff. nothing inappropriate, but scary clowns should be fine. they could hang out outside if they REALLY don't like it.

Belle- Avid mostly because they've always come to mine. I've been to haunted houses with both of them that had clown stuff and they got extra scared but then were ok. I didn't expect such a strong reaction from them.
It felt like someone slapped me in the face and told me my decorations were bad before I even started decorating.

This is YOUR party.
Do whatever makes YOU happiest and what YOU want to do.
Don't let people make decisions for you! Good luck. : )

I agree that this is YOUR party so you should honestly do whatever it is you were planning to do. On another note....I am not a huge fan of clowns myself.

Nope - go for what you want!!
For the record, I don't like clowns either. But that's what Halloween's all about - getting a good scare, right? Is it Halloween yet?

I agree with 'it's your party and you can Clown if you want to'!!
I did a Psychotic Circus 7 years ago, had some Clowns, however two years ago we did 'Face Your Fears' that is when I found out how many people had Coulrophobia. It seems to be a VERY common fear!!Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

I've noticed in the last few years that it has become very trendy to have a "fear of clowns" and I don't get it. To me, clowns are annoying but hardly scary. I'm sure there are some people who have real Coulrophobia but I think it's mostly exagerated and I sure wouldn't change my plans for two people who threaten to leave if you have clowns! Besides, HALLOWEEN IS SUPPOSSED TO BE SCARY!!!!! sheesh... some people...

I'd say go ahead, if they don't like it they can stay in the yard.
I find dolls to be very creepy, but I would think it was awesome if someone did a scary doll theme (like someone posted here they're planning) because it would be something that actually scares me, and isn't that half the fun of Halloween?Zombie Eradication/Disposal Unit (ZEDU) - K-9 Patrol Division
Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?

I'm on either side of this; I get that it's your party and yeah you should do what you want but at the same time if your friends are truly bothered by clowns it would be pretty sh*tty to fill your party with tons of clowns. I'm not saying ditch them entirely but don't go out of your way to use them as the main focus, besides clowns aren't the entire circus....if they were there would be no chance in hell of me ever going to one lol. I too find clowns annoying...even if they're supposed to be scary they just p*ss me off. All you can do is just respect the fact that your friends don't like them, and hope they will have the courage to at least face one or two clowns for the evening.
