Wow, Halloween was really alive and well at the turn of the 1900s here in the US and Canada through the Dennison Bogie Books. You guys who love vintage and haven't seen a Bogie Book before are going to flip at this. I saw this Dennison booklet from 1934 listed on Ruby Lane on how to throw a fantastic halloween party. Thought you guys might enjoy looking at it. Parties have come a long way since then and so has halloween decorating but this vintage stuff is pretty cool in its own rights.
Halloween Parties: A Book of Decorations, Favors, Games and Stunts
....or how about this 1926 Dennison "How to Entertain on Hallowe'en: Decorations, Costumes, Favors, Games, Menus--The Bogie Book" for ideas for your next party? I guess pirates on halloween was a big thing even back then. That kind of surprised me because I know some people don't think of pirates being a halloween theme. I kind of the like the barrel tables and the witch's caldron stand. I'm not even sure my dad was born when this came out but I've heard people mention the Dennison halloween products before. At the bottom of the link there's some other Dennison Halloween Bogie Books from that time period and before. Seems like Dennison was a forerunner of the halloween scene back then. Cool stuff. I would love to go back in time and attend a big party from back then just to experience it the way they celebrated it then.
The costumes in this 1922 Bogie Book are priceless. BTW there are 2 1922 Bogie Books pictured and different images are shown from each.
Oh and did you know that witches and aliens were themes back then too? Whimsical Beistle Halloween Centerpiece
BTW no telling how long these images will be up so if you enjoy them you might want to save the pages as a PDF. The Ruby Lane site has a lot of neat vintage items as well as halloween party games and "fortune telling" games from the time.

Thank you Ghost of Spookie! I adore vintage Halloween, and looking at those books makes me even more excited for Halloween this year. The Bogie book's costumes are incredible. I'd love to make a costume like that. I've never been on Ruby Lane before, so it's great to look around and see how all of my replicas really do compare to the vintage pieces. Thank you!

I would love to look through the entire Bogie Books series and see more of their projects. Too bad these aren't available online in some form. I loved looking at what this guy did post though. If anyone sees more Bogie Books online, please post.
I will tell you this, no way would my husband be caught dead in any of those costumes the gentlemen were sporting! I'm lucky if I can get him to put on a cape and give a Dracula impression to the ToTers. Blood and gore definitely was not a part of Halloween in the Dennison books. I wonder when monsters came into popularity.
I hope you guys were able to take the time to look through the 10 other booklets mentioned down the page in the "You may also be interested in" section. Wish they are were still 10 to 25 cents!
Here's a two page article on Bogie Books and their history along with a few picture from the books not in the above Ruby Lane collection--Supper in the Witch's Garden and Table Decorations (pg2).

Well this spurred me to spend a little more time researching the Bogie Books and I found the following YouTube Video of the entire 1923 Bogie Book as the person flips through it.

You guys will also want to check out her website "Vintage Halloween Ideas from the 1890s to the 1960s". Lots of great ideas, a free newsletter and under the Products section she has digital copies of the books available for purchase.
