I've done a chocolate fountain for my Bewitched Bash and people love it - but it's a bit messy and I end up throwing alot of food away because I want a lot of variety....
I've seen lots of people post that they do "candy bars" as part of their Halloween parties and I'd like to do one too. Has anyone ever used it as part of your favor? I was thinking of buying Halloween themed Chinese food takeout boxes and maybe put some type of thank you note on them and letting them take candy home to the family or for themselves? Grown up trick or treating? I will probably do another favor as well in addition to this one. Does this sound cool or lame? Opinions please.

I think it sounds great, I love those little "chinese takeout" lookin' boxes. You can get them in Halloween colors with all different kinds of designs. Also, you can get personalized candy bar wrappers, and give candy bars as part of your treats to take home. Here's a link:

I did the personalized candy bar wrappers last year - after watching a crafting video online - and they came out really, really cute. It gets tricky finding a new favor every year - something that everyone will like. One year I did a little gift bag with black lipstick and black or glow in the dark nail polish. First year I did little jack o lantern votive holders. So now at the 4th year - what next??? I'm certainly open to any ideas. I usually try and make them cost no more than $1-1.50 each - because I plan on about 40 women usually...to be safe.

Like M Hooch said, If you wish to do personalized chocolate bars, Shindigz has a lot of options with backgrounds, personalization, add-your-own-photos and so forth.
They also have little round dots that are the perfect size for kisses, Hershey's Minatures, those little peanut butter cups... all kinds of 'bite size' candies really.

The reg. size bar wrappers are .75 cents each without the chocolate, the little dots are a page of 108 for under 2 bucks. It might be cheaper to make your own, but my printer is perpetually on the fritz
so I just went this way.

I love love LOVE a candy bar....it would be so amazing! I have thought about doing it this year with different types/sizes of jars. Then you must figure out the candy to fill each jar with...I was thinking Halloween M & Ms, brachs mix, gumballs, Hersheys Miniatures, ect. I know I could find a good deal on the jars-Michaels, Wal Mart, Big Lots, Yard Sales...my concern is the expense on the candy and the chinese tak out boxes. I havent officially ruled it out yet....but its one thing that would just be amazing! Please keep me upated on your ideas...maybe we can help each other find reasonable prices!

OK-so after doing some research I found out that chinese take home boxes are $36.00 for a Qty of 50 -either orange or black. Right now we have about 150 people on our guest list. Now, who knows how many people are going to come..that is always a gamble. And what adults may take the candy? If I went to a party with a Candy Bar, I know I would
Anyhow, although my heart is set on the containers, I am thinking I will need to find another type of bag to put the candy in. So, I need to check in my supplies up in the attic to see what type of treat bags I have in there. Otherwise, I know at christmas Walgreens has really nice paper type sacs 4/1.00, which would work nicely if they made them for Halloween. I cannot remember. As much as I want to use the containers, I would rather invest my money in nicer candy...and most likely the containers would be pitched anyway. What do you guys think?

I agree with you - the container has to be relatively cheap because the candy can get expensive.....now I've gone another route - and it's much cheaper - what's your opinion?

I love making cupcakes but they are a mess to take home. These boxes are ADORABLE though....
Opinions anyone/everyone?

pandora...LOVE the cupcake boxes, and the fact that you can see through them is great!! Are those for sure for you?
Rikki-thanks for the link! Thats the best deal that I have seen after searching a ton!! I saw a good deal on white ones, but love the black. Would really like black and orange, but black will be great too! I might need to figure out how to put that in the budget. So, I was thinking of getting the pint size ones in black
I could out out stickers for the little ones to decorate with
The quart might be too big...
So...what types of candy do you think? I was thinking:
Candy Corn
M & Ms (the Halloween ones, although they could be costly)
Bubble Gum..the dollar tree has the gum that used to be called PAL-in the red, white and blue wrappers...soft pink bubble gum. I remember that from when I was a kid...its my favorite!
Maybe Reese Pieces?
I need something fruity also....so any ideas for any candy would be appreciated. Need to start looking at yard sales, craigs list, good will etc for the large jars..will also need to find candy scoops.
